Once in a while, amidst all of of the derivative tired bilge and just general idiots, someone does spontaneously respond with something I genuinely find funny. It's not by accident; they are sincerely trying to be funny, but aren't parroting the same damn thing from something else. And it actually works; makes me laugh. Off the cusp, too! Not premeditated for awhile.

It happens more often than I would expect. I love that.

I found out today that I love Disneyland. And it is fabulously fun to go with your neices who are three and seven months, respectively. Now being three, and something of a fraidy cat, my one neice didn't make it through much (and we didn't try a lot, when she got scared for the brief dinosaur section on the Mickey Mouse train circling the park we decided against anything more intense than that. But she had a tremendous time and was especially enamored of meeting the princesses and tinkerbell and her sidekick fairy. Her favorite ride was Small World and was the only one she asked to ride again.

I got stuck on Pirates of the Carribbean for about five minutes. I was stuck right next to the trio, donkey and dog that sing, "yo ho, yo ho a pirates life for me" I still wasn't able to learn all the words, but I"m closer to understanding them now.

Other than the pirates song, I knew the words to every other song I heard music for in the park. This led to me basically singing all day long, sometimes under my breath, sometimes to my niece (e.g., "a very merry unbirthday to me, to you") or Zip a Dee Doo Dah whilst on Splash Mountain. (come to think of it, I don't know more than, "Zip a dee doo dah zip a dee day my oh my, what a wonderful day. plenty of sunshine heading my way. zip a dee doo dah, zip a dee day. Mr. Bluebird's on my shoulder. It's the truth, it's actual. Everything is satisfactual." repeat).

Also, Space Mountain kicks the crap out of the exceedingly lame Star Tours. And Space Mountain feels much more high tech and modern than the almost 'junky' star tours gimmick. if Space Mountain had just a tid bit of star wars imagry it'd be perfect. As it is, it's pretty much the most fun roller coaster I've ever been on, not the most exciting, or most inversions, or craziest, but definitely the most fun. I came out of that ride completely charged with a massive grin on my face. were I between the ages of seven and sixteen I probably would have spent all day riding it over and over again.

Overall though, the park reminded me more than I expected of Silver Dollar City. I won't say either park is better, they both have their strengths, and it's obvious where SDC has ripped off some things from Disney (eg SDCs weaker version of Splash Mountain, the American Plunge) but it has also built itself an experience just as unique with its own strengths. There's a lot more non-kid entertainment and interests at SDC than there is at Disneyland, and there's better "stand" food at SDC. The rides for the most part do not really compare in any respect, Disney is just too perfectly and completely imagineered, and most of SDCs efforts along these lines while impressive, just do not hold up anymore to the 'real thing' so to speak.

in any event, I love disneyland, I have a donald shirt now, which will probably require me to talk in my donald voice whenever I wear it.

And man I want to watch some of my disney treasures dvds now about the park.

the only thing I didn't get to do that I wanted to was the Tiki thing. And they make damn good ice cream sundaes at Disneyland.

I went to Disney World when I was in college and was just kind of like, "meh." -- I found it far too plastic and the rides far too tame. Give me Six Flags any day. The group I went with was totally in love with it. Eventually, I realized that this was because they had all been to Disney World as children, and thus were viewing it through the eyes of nostalgia. So, I came up with my Disney-empire theory -- in order to truly enjoy the Disney Parks, one must either have traveled there as a child or be traveling with a child.

My boyfriend, on the other hand, oh man. Speaking of nostalgia. When he lived in California as a kid, he had a doting childless aunt who worked at Disneyland. This was when workers' could pretty well let in any family members for free. What a child's fantasy come true, huh? He has tons of fond memories of his mother trying to trick him into thinking they were going somewhere else (which never worked for long) and then arriving at Disneyland, of hearing that the workers lived underground and running along, stopping, and knocking on the ground, putting his ear down and asking, "Do you think they heard me?" I have a feeling that my theory would not hold up; that, actually, I would probably be able to enjoy going to Disneyland with him -- a person who has that much nostalgia.

I also love Disney World, and I wish I could go back there. There's just this school thing (AKA returning to school in 6 days) that's stopping me (plus a kajilion other stuff, but that first)..

wierd, I've never liked Six Flags, it's nothing but rides nasty long lines for every single thing and really hot. Six Flags is enjoyable but much more of a chore.

Disneyland, otoh, was practically relaxing.

I still like Silver Dollar City best, because it's what I grew up with and there's plenty to keep adults engaged (if I wanted I could go and just spend all day watching the various live performances and shows rather than riding a single ride). So to an extent I agree with your nostalgia assessment, the rides at parks like Disneyland and SDC aren't really meant for thrill seekers, they're too old-fashioned.

The two times I went to six flags (once in Maryland, once in California) the lines were pretty nonexistent. Usually we had to wait no more than one or two passes of the ride. The one ride that had nasty lines was the X2, and after an hour and a half of that + dinner we had the rest of the park virtually to ourselves until midnight (with no more than 3 or 4 people in line with us for any given ride).

I love Haruka, my Dell DJ mp3 player.
I had a bit of trouble getting her started up and she took forever to charge, but now, she's great! She's so easy to use and she's got room for tons more songs even though she already has over a thousand tracks.
