How scandalous of you, Syphoney; what will your wife think?

(Still both completely normal and completely absurd that you have one of those and have had one for four years!)

I'm spraying myself with an upside down air can

What!? I can hardly breath if i'm in the same room when someone turns it upside down! Do they not all try to kill people?

I loved fireflies. I just saw them for the first time in my life tonight, and they are beautiful.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

It's awesome when the fields and woods are just full of them and there are sparkles flying by as you drive. I like to pull over on a dark, back road and turn my lights off in order to really see them. So cool. Only caveat, they are deadly to Pheeny, so keep away!

YES!

Oh man.

I must now immediately find out if they make good ones anywhere in Minnesota, or if I have to take them on myself.

Getting free cookies at subway. I jokingly pointed out to the cashier that the cookie I wanted looked broken. "So, can I get it for free", I asked.
"No!"

Then she gives them to me, on the house... I was just joking. :o

The electric company did an actual meter reading somewhat recently and came to the conclusion that I use less than they were thinking I did, so I have a $24 credit; this works out to covering a month under the old usage and possibly two months under the new usage. Woo hoo!

That's awesome!

Also, I went to a dinner for the Princeton Evangelical Fellowship on Tuesday night. Given the stereotypes with which we're all familiar, I was delighted that about 1/3 of the people attending were physicists.

The neighbors we met tonight. They've been married 71 years. He was wounded serving in the Navy in WWII,
She was a nurse. They just love babies and were so delighted we brought Atty to meet them.

Orange juice!

I had been avoiding this ever since I saw a FB post Chris made on how orange juice is made and it grossed me out a bit. And then, this morning, I came to my senses and realized I am not a foodie and as long as whatever I put in my body takes 40-50 years to kill me versus 40-50 hours, it's all good.

Cold air.
Oh, gosh, me too! It's been 100 degrees or higher for the last week and it's supposed to continue for another week or so. (This isn't helping our 8 wildfires, one of which is up to 75,000 acre and the most destructive fire in Colorado history.) Yesterday, our air conditioning went out. I covered all of our windows with blankets to keep the cool in and the heat out. I did manage to keep the temperature below 80 for most of the day. Luckily, an HVAC friend of ours was willing to come over on a sunday evening and fix our machine so we now have cold air again. How precious it is!!

It's been between 85 & 90 for most of the last week, and ultra humid. Urk.

I love that my birding hobby is inspiring my friends and family to take more notice of birds too. My mom has put up all kinds of bird feeders (it's partly out of guilt for, at first, making fun of my hobby); my SIL has gotten a new camera to take pictures of birds and calls me about things she sees; and the biggest accomplishment of all...my older brother, who has NO interest in anything nature-y, called me from his visit to Idaho to ask me about a bird he saw there. Now, he's been going to Idaho to visit in-laws for 15 years and only now noticed the magpies that are everywhere. He even took some pictures and sent them to me to identify. So cool!

Nomi, your influence extends even further; I've been paying far more attention to the birds in my area as well, and am tempted to get a book to help me identify some of the ones I've seen up at the cabin!

The main recommended bird books are those by Sibley, Peterson, Stokes, etc. I recommend checking some out from the library to see which feels most user friendly to you. That's what I did and I ended up with a different one (not a "true" birder favorite). When it says "Eastern North America" it means east of the Rocky Mountains, so that would cover Minnesota too.

New Zealand, for supporting justice, the rule-of-law, and standing up to bullying from the FBI (even if it's the judicial system standing up after law-enforcement went all doormat).

This sounds like great hard fun work.

[edit]

So CNN and Fox both screwed up their initial reporting on the healthcare ruling yesterday, and evidently Obama was watching CNN and got trolled into thinking the bill had been overturned. I find this irrationally hilarious.
