I passed Syntax. I actually passed it. And I almost managed to get a C- even.

I put my puzzle ring back together all by myself!

Also, I called to set up an appointment with a therapist. Who, it turns out, is booked for two months out.

But I called.

I got my dissertation proposal scheduled! April 23rd, baby! WOoohooo!!

This is actually more of a personal triumph than successfully proposing it will be :)

I worked the housing lottery. The massive sea of students waited outside the doors, and yet they parted the crowd for me, they opened the doors for me, there were people happy to see me, they were waiting for me to arrive to begin. For a year I watched this strange little culture, and now I'm a part of it. I have a place in it. And there are moments in which I'm actually pretty good at it.

I helped someone understand that it's okay for boys to wear dresses today.

I didn't destroy the paperclip holding together my MMPI-2 profile.

I have a really bad habit of destroying any paperclip that comes into my possession without being aware of it.

Oh, and also, I have never once left my fieldwork site without every scrap of paperwork being done. Even if I stay late.

I biked to work and back for the first time.

The triumph, though, is that I loved it.

I just bought a computer yesterday. I'm not posting on it yet, as I have no wireless internet yet but, I'm soooooo happy. It's an HP Pavilion dv6000 CTO notebook (I think... *runs upstairs and checks* Yep, that's the one), with 2gb ram, Windows Vista, and a great graphics card, the name of which escapes me at the moment. I got a great deal as it was on sale, and the guy who sold it to me just happened to be a friend from High School. Lucky, huh? YAY! I have a computer all my own!

I can be by myself for hours on end and be perfectly content. I can do this day after day and be okay with it. I can go shopping, do errands, sit at home, etc. without a friend by my side and I don't dread it. I actually often prefer being by myself now.

This might not seem like much until you realize that a year ago the thought of an hour by myself sent me into a full blown panic attack. I literally tried to plan every waking moment of every day so that I was in the company of friends...which was quite trying for them. The change has been nothing short of amazing. I am very proud of myself.

I got a North Dakota drivers license. After living here for four years.

And I looked to see how much my UND bill is going to be for the summer.

Not exactly new, but I ran 2 kilometers (do the transformations to miles yourselves, I personally believe it to be about 1.25 miles) in 9 minutes, 34 seconds. Best result I ever accomplished in a school long-run, though it's behind many of my friends. But it was one of my happier moments =)
(if you're thinking "9.34? that's really slow!" then know that I'm just beginning 10th grade in September)

Also, I've completed both the Tricky and the Speedy skill points in Ratchet and Clank, and Speedy's the hardest skill point in the game. You have to truely master the hoverboard race to reach 1.37 secs, and then you have to create shortcuts which have a fifty-fifty chance of working. But I did it, in 1.35.14 ^___^ (it's probably Gibberish for the most of you, but those of you who played the game, please enjoy with me..^^)

AND I finally cooked something that isn't an ommlette (sic), or a Cornflakes bowl, or a toast. I've made pasta, and it was actually pretty good =)

I did not trip over the rug in the entrance way to Tabula.

Now, this is not a personal triumph because I usually trip over the rug or have some kind of history of rug-tripping. I never have, and I'm not more of a klutz about falling than most people.

This is a triumph because today, I was tempting fate. I had just gotten done with an initial session as a supervisor with a supervisee that I am already starting to fall in love with in the pseud-parental way I fall in love with all people for whom I am responsible. And I felt good about myself in the session as well. I felt like I presented as open, warm, etc. Also, it seems to me that more and more I am coming across as a socially competent person which makes me happy. Furthermore, today I am wearing fall clothes which include a mock turtleneck and a sweater that cost $12 but that I adore. And also, I caught a glimpse of myself in a glass door and felt like I look good today. Professional, adult, mature.

Don't tell me a good self-esteem day like this is anything but begging fate to come along and take you down a peg or two.

I went to Tabula, a local coffee shop. Many professors and students were there, the lunchtime crowed. And as I entered, high on thoughts of, well, everything, feeling the most adult I have felt in a very long time, I felt the toe of my shoe catch in the rug and I started to lose my balance --

Very briefly. And then I recovered without really either breaking my stride or looking foolish. And continued on with my happy and self-assured day.

A small triumph over fate, but a triumph none-the-less.

I beat Battletoads.

...on an emulator, but still, it's not even easy then. I always wondered as a kid what was past that third level. I wish I could go back and tell myself... you're not really missing much. (The third level isn't even the hardest, I don't think. I'll never know what the hell these people were thinking when they made this.)

I conquered my fear and went to the big club event I so badly wanted to go to all by myself, no wingman, no company, no nothing.
...it wasn't that great, but I did it nonetheless.
