Phew, okay. After my dad asking me endlessly if my sleep problems are depression-related, after losing numerous friends because they can't handle me, after friendly encouragement from two Pwebbers and less than encouraging comments from two others, and after years of me wanting to get help and letting fear stop me, I did it.

I contacted this company my employer works with for mental health issues. I wasn't brave enough to call but they had an option for emailing and that I can and did do. They should be contacting me, hopefully next Monday as I asked versus a weekday this week...because I am not quite up to admitting the obvious to my family.

But yeah. First step taken.

I am so, so, so proud of you. I'm not sure if I'm one of the givers of friendly encouragement but I hope so. Mental health/illness stigma sucks and takes real courage and maturity to overcome. You've taken the first step. *hugs*

Alea: I am really very proud of you. I do remember taking that first step myself, and I know I'm not the only one here who has. That takes a lot of guts, and you should be proud, too.

I actually made a healthy and well-balanced supper last night after work in time for when Donny got home for his quick lunch. Even though I was tired and didn't want to.

Twice in a row! And last night's actually involved chopping and measuring and grating and seasoning! It was Mediterranean chicken. It was FABULOUS. The chicken was cooked perfectly, very tender and yummy, the vegetables were excellently flavored, and I'm really growing fond of kalamata olives.

Sadly, my S.O. does not seem to feel the same way. Conversation at 5:30 AM re: my fabulous chicken. He'd had some of it in the middle of the night as opposed to his normal frozen pizza.

Him: I had some chicken last night.
Me (expectant): Was it good?
Him: It was okay. I'd try it again.
Me: ??!!??

Dude. I can handle him not being crazy about something I've cooked -- even if I've worked really hard on it -- but not first thing when I'm waking up super early.

Anyways, he's not really used to the flavors of much of anything. However, he is trying to get used to them due to my near phobic worries about his health. He more or less liked the chicken. And he tried a couple of the peppers, and they were edible. But apparently olives that are not on a pizza are something very new.

But my tastebuds do not lie. It was superb. Which is why this is still going in the personal triumphs section.

Thanks, guys! I couldn't get good pics of it, but my co-worker made a display of "Harry Potter artifacts" in our glass cabinet. It had a pink umbrella, robes, round glasses, hogwarts textbooks, Dobby's hats and socks, a bunch of labeled potions, a scottish hat...etc. It was very cool and the kids just loved it.

Well, this happened a while ago, but I climed up the CN tower! I mean, I went up by the stairs not the elevator...that's 181 stories! It took a while...I think my time was 22 mins 18 seconds. I felt great afterwards though!

It was actually for a United Way charity. I wanted to do it again this year but I can't

I called three places. Grrr. Stupid places. One won't let non-members book more than 6 months ahead and wouldn't even give me a ballpark on the fees. One seemed really shocked that I wanted to get married on a Sunday. I'm waiting for a call back from the pastor. And a third one was nice enough, I'm just waiting to hear back. No info, though.

All in all, I'm thinking about booking and using the campus chapel if it isn't already taken. That was basically built for alums to have pretty weddings in, except you can't hang anything up and need permits for candles. And I want candles. Many of them. Grrr again. And I'll have to have a keyboard instead of a piano. Also, if the day is yucky, because there are SO MANY windows, it's really going to affect how it looks inside. But oh well. If it's really sunny, come to think of it, the candle thing would probably matter less.

Okay, that was not the point. The point is the personal triumph. Which is that I called three places. Which I've been putting off. So, yay me.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, Kirsten, but...
If you don't attend a church, why get married in one? Aren't there lots of places (hotels, etc) that would be easier to get married in on a Sunday?

Because I want to. I mean, stubbornly, absolutely, insistently want to.

I can forego the date, if necessary, and I would rather do that than forego the church.

I don't know why, exactly. But I want to get married in a place that has some religious significance, even if it isn't my personal church, and I absolutely hate -- no, despise -- the idea of using a hotel. (For me, not for other people.) The campus memorial chapel is as far as I can stand to compromise on this. Fortunately, it's not booked yet for that date, as I may have to go that route.

I don't know why. I do not have an as-yet articulated reason that this matters to me. But it truly, truly does.

ETA: By the way, it's not entirely accurate these days to say that I do not attend a church. I do. Sporadically? Yes. But all the same. Unfortunately, it's 11 hours from where I will get married. Just FYI.

ETAA: Again, by the way, even though I referred to the places as "stupid places," I don't really take issue with their policies (e.g., special permission for Sundays, giving members preference for dates). That makes perfect sense to me. I'm more annoyed at this whole process. And the one receptionist who was really kind of rude.

Don't weddings usually take place on saturdays? easier on people who are traveling for the wedding, and I would think a mid-afternoon/late-afternoon sunday wedding would limit a lot of people's ability to stay for the reception. Saturdays have much more flexible time frames than a church on sunday (a lot of churchs have church activities all day Sunday, at least ours did, ending with youth group in the evening).

Then again, we had a fairly utilitarian/contemporary church, no stain glass, carpet on the walls, the sanctuary had folding chairs that were taken down so we could use the basketball court/volleyball court that was part of the sanctuary. Not a lot of couples were very interested in being married there. :-p
