I got a job offer, today. Finally. After getting a number of rejections, I was starting to wonder if I'm really that bad of a prospective employee. And I should be finding out next week whether I have a job for next semester, too. Wish me luck!

Also, I did well in my major oral argument, today. I really don't like litigation -- or the courtroom scene, in general -- so I wasn't feeling particularly confident I'd do well. But, in the words of the chief justice, my argument "completely devastated [my] opponent's."

Had dinner next to Robin Hobb tonight, and did not fanboy geek out. She is gracious, and poised, and a damned interesting speaker. Also, she had some great (although, not really new) advice on writing and the writer's life.

I apparently have made enough of an impression on someone not only to make them laugh, but remember who I am and even mention me when I'm not around. Someone I rather admire, and who's rather... "popular" I guess (not even minorly-famous, but... well, popular). I was just so incredibly overjoyed when some events happened today... I just cannot even describe.

after missing out on seeing Janis Ian at Endercon, I finally met her and she signed my book today! :) Hooray, LA festival of books.

I also got a brush pen for practicing my kana with. :D

I have never "pulled an all-nighter" in my academic career, nor have I ever failed a class or dropped one because I was struggling. And since today was the last day of the last level of schooling I ever intend on attempting, those will probably always be true.

(I also just finished college in 3 years, with pretty good grades I think, while having at least three jobs/positions for almost the entire duration. But that doesn't much matter; I just care about the nonparenthesized things)

I suppose just "being done with school" can be here, too, since that definitely is a triumph, and few to none here will really understand what that means to me.

I finally got a 100 on a social studies test. I always was so close. I'd miss one question, or not having enough detail in my essays.

I'm staying on budget and have not bought anything tuesday-thursday. :) that includes no grocery shopping, books, dvds, movies etc.

I'm trying to cut back expenses because I've got moving expenses coming up. :-p plus being more responsible at the grocery store means eating healthier.

My standardized testing scores all scored above the 95th percentile of everyone who took it in the U.S. except for spelling, which was only in the 93s.

I have no personal triumphs, only letdowns:
1. Managed to get lower score on my Math State Mandatory test. So it's like, I got dumber?

2. Managed to get a lower score than my friend, who I academically compete with, on the SAT. Got an 1870. He got a 21??
Not to mention, my teacher said generally SAT scores go up like 100 points, the second time you take it. A girl I know got 1820, and went up to 1950. I got 1830, went up to 1870. Fmylife.

3. Failed to reach my goal of breaking 2000 on my SAT score :D

4. Counselor called me to the office and said my P-SAT score was enough to win the National Merit Scholarship(for black people). Kept hyping it up and stuff. Finally, when I went to her for help choosing my courses next year, since I'm on the DAP plan, she said my high PSAT score could be used as an advance measure. But then, she went to check and make sure it was mine, that she remembered.
She came back and was like "No you didn't make it, you were like 2 points off though"
In actuality, I was just the kid remembered for almost getting a scholarship. At the moment of triumph, my "victory" came crashing down

5. Possibley failed to get my first job ever. Though, I guess I can't be too sure till I contact them, even though they contacted someone else I know and told them they got the job. :)

This happened to me with my P-SATs, too. Went up in front of the school, got the whole "these two kids possibly might be eligible to maybe be National Merit Scholars." The next week we found out we weren't.

like you two that is exactly what happened to me, I was either one point or two points below the threshhold. annoying but didn't matter much in the long run.

The novelette is 15,000 words long. I keep blinking at that. By far, this is the longest thing I've ever written. And, unlike past stories, I think this might be something good. Not great, sure, but entertaining. Now I have to slog through the revision, but the thought of discovering it is crap is paralyzing me.

9 consecutive pullups yesterday

185x3x5 on the bench and punched out an extra rep on the last set of five. that is 89.81% of my body weight. I'm getting closer and closer to that goal that I once scoffed at. :)

I finally owe less than 20,000 in principle on my student loans! just took me three years after graduating to pay off 1/3 of them. :-p

this triumph is somewhat tempered by the realization that the total I've paid on my student loans is already 17,477.77 28% of that has been interest. that's a lot of money 'wasted' paying interest. :-p

I managed a Friday swim practice with out slowing everyone down.

Not that I'm super slow (I'm actually a decent swimmer), but those Fridays are super tiring.

I swam 68 pools of 33 meters (total: 2.244 kilometers, 1.4 miles) in 49 minutes, 17 secs. Which may not sound that fast, but it is, for me (though I didn't make any special effort).
Also, I swam a mile in 36 minutes. (is that a lot of time?)

After spending a week working at the in-laws' farm, my wife and I came home. We woke up this morning to find that our University's women's club decided to give my wife $3000 to pay for school with. With the pell grants we've already received, this is more than enough to pay for her tution and books as well as mine. Hurray!!!

Today is July 1st. I changed my calendar to reflect that it is July today instead of trying to pretend it is still June. This is the first time I've done that in several months.
