That makes you famous, right? That is awesome!

Its a regional Emmy nomination for the newscast he helped put together for the big tornadoes in west NC in March.

We're under the impression that if his newscast wins it's category, everyone nominated on it would get a statue. And there are only 3 in his category (his tornado show, a hurricane Irene retrospective and a Superbowl Sunday show.)

Re: Those Personal Triumphs No One Else Will Ever Understand
I found good cranberries, yesterday I went to the close grocery store and bought 4 bags. But each bag had a lot of sour berries in them It took forever to sort out the bad berries and the cranberry sauce I made was ok. Chris loves cranberry sauce so I try to make a bunch when the berries are fresh in the stores. I was really disappointed with the berries and sauce. So today i went to the safeway near campus and they had AMAZING cranberries. I bought 6 bags. I made 4 into sauce tonight and tomorrow I'm going tot try a cranberry pie ( at Chris' request) we will see how it turns out. I've never made one and the internet is only helping so much. I'm basically taking a blueberry pie recipe and switching the berries and adding a bunch of sugar.
They are great huge firm cranberries. can't wait to eat em up.

Discovered the toilet paper needed to be refilled BEFORE I sat down. This makes me happy.

I officially have an interview with the public library! Next Tuesday, which is the day before we leave for Christmas. I am excited, but nervous, since it's taken them so long to get back to me.
Oh, and I have no clue what exactly we'll do about childcare, since it's a substitute position.

Oh my God ohmygod! I'm, like, feeling SO EXCITED!
Okay. I am a frequenter of slate.com, an online liberal magazine. And they have a feature called The Explainer, which answers interesting questions from readers, generally having to do with items in the news. About once or twice a year, I send in some random question at 3 AM. Anyhow, at the end of the year, they pull a bunch of unanswered questions and poll readers to determine Question of the Year, which they answer. MY QUESTION IS ON THE POLL!
SO EXCITED. It's dumb, but I am, like, star-struck!
My question: How long could a lactating woman survive on her own breast milk?
Here's the URL if anyone wants to vote:

SO EXCITED! THEY NOTICED ME!

It's okay. I accidentally voted for another question, too. I hadn't read all the way down the list and didn't realize mine was on there.
There are actually a lot of interesting questions. I'm disappointed the sunbathing one looks like it's going to win.

Sunbathing looks unbeatable at this point. Unfortunately. I'm in eleventh place, but at least I'm edging out "Why do Arab men wear track suits?"

For the record, I've been voting on a number of different IPs in the hope we could at least turn the tide. I need to make up for my mistake.
But seriously. "Why are they topless lolololol?" Stupid question, stupid answer.

Re: Those Personal Triumphs No One Else Will Ever Understand
I voted, Kirsten, but I thought I'd take a stab at things myself. If you win, we'll see how close I am! Folks, feel free to refine or adjust my assumptions and/or math!
This website says that a daily resting calorie expenditure for a 180lb 5'6" woman* is 1623 kcal.
This website says it takes about 500 calories to make 24-28 oz. of breast milk. Let's be conservative and use the lower figure. Therefore it costs about 21kcal per ounce of milk.
Finally, this website tells me there is approximately 70kcal per 100ml of mature breast milk, so it works out to almost 21kcal/ounce there, too.
Hmm. I'm not sure everyone is accurate. Looking at that, a woman could not survive on breast milk alone for very long. Anyone have anything to correct that, or any idea how to calculate the starvation point?
* Heavy, yes, but since she's breastfeeding and inactive, she is carrying baby weight and hasn't lost it. For the sake of argument.
