I made one of the biggest names in my field rethink his position on something and now he's asking me for advice.

I made laundry detergent and fabric softener today.
RECIPES PLEASE!

I've been meaning to do this for AGES!
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Laundry Detergent. If you look around on the web, there are several different recipes. They use all the same ingredients, the ratios are just different. I started with this one and I'll see how it works with my machine and our water.

Fabric Softener. In the comments, there is a recipe similar to this, only it used baking soda along with the conditioner. That's what I did. There are also methods that use no conditioner and only baking soda, vinegar and water. I wanted some extra softness, so I did both.

I added lavender oil to both recipes for scent and the calming effects. I'll let you know what I think of them. I have a load in the dryer right now that I used the fabric softener on, so I'll know soon whether I like it. The laundry detergent is supposed to set for 24 hours, so I won't know until tomorrow.

Did something recently publish about making your own detergent and fabric softener? At least three of my friends posted to Facebook last week about doing the same.

I don't know. I've been meaning to try it for a long time and since I finally used all of my costco-sized products, I thought it would be a good time to try.

Gave good answers, which I elaborated on. Made the interviewer laugh. Interviewing skills +10

I'm definitely improving in my bird identification skills. I visit a bird forum where people go for help with id's and yesterday for the first time I took a stab at two id's and I was correct on both (and one was tricky!). And then on the Simpson's tonight, they were following a bird with a tracker on it and I said to Mark, "That looks like a Scarlet Tanager." Right afterwards, Lisa looked up the species and I was right! :D

Oooh, wow! That's brilliant!

On an owl-related note, I saw an ale on tap at a pub the other day called "Screech Owl", but I would swear they'd depicted a barn owl on it.

I've recently severely cut down on the amount of time I spend looking at pony stuff. Deliberately cutting a... thing, any thing, out of my life tends to be a very difficult thing for me to do, a fact which causes no end of frustration for me. I have a line of thinking like this in my head all the time: "<whiny voice> but what if I miss seeing something awesome and funnyyyyyy?" "So what? WHO. THE f***. CARES" And yet still I found myself doing the same thing over and over again. Instant gratification's a bitch.

A while ago I used to watch every single PMV I saw. Then I only watched the ones that were related to something I knew about (crossovers with bebop, boondocks, etc). Then I stopped watching them entirely. Now I've finally cut out comics, flash animations and other fan creations, and I only read 'news' items. Now I can spend less than an hour a day on this waste of time, hooray~.

I haven't noticed any sudden increase in free time, but I probably am spending a lot more time on other things I've been meaning to do. And hey, I actually managed to check pweb for once.
