Eventually I will be getting another pet something (I like most animals) and wanted to hear opinions on the types of pets out there.
So which animal makes the best Pet?

Roaches. I seem to have a whole family of them as pets, whether I like it or not. I swear, I'm out of this dump first chance i get.

Obviously cats. It's such a self-evident matter, that i don't understand how could there even be doubt.

Honestly, I think it depends on what you're looking for from a pet. My personal expectations align with cat, but I hardly expect cat to be the best option for everyone.

I don't like cats. They defecate all over our roof and we had to reshingle everything. not pleasant at all...

Kitties. I'm assuming you are an apartment dweller, so the size is an advantage, plus, you don't have to walk a cat.

Ditto. If you can afford the time (and money, and space), they're more than worth it.

I'm a fan of cats. This is largely because we can happily ignore each other all day long. Unless one of us wants attention... then one can torment the other.

If you want a great, loving, playful friend and companion get a dog. If you want a glorified hamster, get a cat.

I have a wonderful 11 pound tortoiseshell long haired cat who (well owns me) is named Fuji. Her hair shows up on any outfit no matter what color or texture of fabric I wear  . I will have to put a picture of her up on Pweb. Even so she is the only being that I have consistently cared for, for the past decade. Cats are great, but I still not sure that the next pet I get will be one or not.

Congrats to Fred!! when are you getting the kitten?

I like dogs, specifically shorter dogs as they can't jump as high as big dogs. Elena, you actually picked one of my favorite Dog breeds, I have a soft spot in my heart for Corgis.

I probably won't ever own a Golden retriever, if I had to get one as a puppy. My aunt and uncle have one (a puppy), a sweet dog, but very energetic and somewhat special, which I hope she'll grow out of.

Very funny, H_K, I am sure you don't like roaches that much. Although I am not averse to owning the giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, as I have held them several times. Not many things disgust me other than mice and rats.

Are roaches any better then spiders?

roaches are much worse than spiders. The spiders were my secret friends. The roaches just hide in my bathroom, next to dick cheney.

Spiders are horrid. Especially when you're taking a shower and suddenly you hear one ask you to pass the shampoo. It is generally not a pleasant experience to realise that it's big enough to be able to use it.

The only spiders that I can't stand and will kill on sight are deadly ones meaning Black widows and Brown Recluses. Both types are in my region ugh.
Rei, you must have some fairly intelligent, big spiders  you might need a special exterminater for those.

Try having a Dick Cheney ask for the shampoo, just slightly worse.

Hey, what rei does in his own shower is his business. I really don't want to know.

The answer to that question just depends on how nitpicky and technical you want to be. :stoned:

I'd say get a cat or dog. Some of those animals you can't really pet, and others you have to deal with a cage. Cages are such a hassle. It's nice to have a free roaming pet that if you step on them by accident, you don't kill them.

I think my gerbil would somehow kill you if you stepped on her. She's fierce.
