ok let me start off by saying that I have only read this first couple or post here...

But I love the idea of having ranks past soldier...I remember when I hit that lovely post #1,000 and was mentioned in that Topic.

The problem with it though was that people were spamming in order to get a higher post count. I believe that's why they did away with it.

Posting a lot is fine as long as the posts have some sort of substance and add something to the thread that they are in.

It is problematic when it is simply just saying something like, "hi" in a thread without adding anything to the conversation.

The above is not an example of spamming because it is at least an attempt to be funny.... a failed attempt, but an attempt :P

Besides, it does prove my point 8)

Can I get warned for being not funny then?

On second thought, the fact that I don't get a new title and an orange name takes all the fun out of being warned.

I'm pretty sure we could arrange a new name, Jebus. Not sure about the colour, though.

On 2.0 we had a warning system that would change your ranking/title to Warned1 or Warned2 depending on the warning. After a month (was it a month?) of good behavior, you went back to normal.

The other affect was that your name would be a different color on the front page. So instead of black it was orange and I think maybe red for the second level.

Like Ali, the name could likely be done, but I don't see how we could do a color.

It wasn't just on the front page, it was also when you posted and on the memberlist, if I recall correctly.

a contest (like photoshop or w/e on a certian ender's game theme) would be a cool way to give out custom titles....

How'd someone get the name Peter Wiggin, anyways? I thought that would have been one of the first on the ban list... I'd say that comment's grounds for deleting the account and locking the name.

Well... I think it was not locked away because we might not have had a pure Peter Wiggin that was prominent before.

I think there was a Peter_Wiggin, but that was quite a long time ago.

Me too... Truth is that if the member is basically forgotten by all the mods, then he kinda loses the name.. Nothing personal, it;s just that the mods have been here a long time and are pretty well connected.

That is how I got to be Hegemon. The only reason why HegemonsAcolyte existed is because Hegemon was taken on the first board. Turns out it was a guy who posted twice and disappeared. Couldn't even find the posts.

Well, I'm happy I got MY name back... probably because so few people remember me now from way back in PWEB v. 1.0 (where we had rankings, too). But I'm a Lauchie... AGAIN!

Now if I could just come up with a cool animated avatar!

You are very very well remembered. Even though I am one of the few people who ever actually met you prior to your leaving, even the later members know of you because there were so many threads asking where you were and if you are okay.

As for your name, on the last board it had actually been saved for you long ago, which is likely why it was gone if you tried to join up under that name.

As for 3.0, if anyone else other than you had signed up, the name would have been taken back and given to you when you arrived.

And yes it was Peter_Wiggin on 2.0. I remember chatin a member by that name.

Thats why I like my name. Because it has no real reason to be banned here just because of the name. (now if I do somethin stupid and I get banned...well that's different)

Actually, those banned names at the start were primarily used to reserve names for people. For instance, Ela's name was banned, but when she was ready to join it was freed up again so she could use it.

However, due to the sheer number of vets that we have, we couldn't do that for everyone, so instead we just did it for names that are likely to be stolen, such as EG-related names.

Hiya, Kenn, is it really you? I kept asking about you, back on the older two Pweb forums.

When you signed up the other night, Hegemon IM'd me to tell me, and we conjectured as to whether it was the "real" KennEnder. ;)

Nice to have you back. :D
