For people who don't care for Rap/hip-hop

Talk about anything under the sun or stars - but keep it civil. This is where we really get to know each other. Everyone is welcome, and invited!

For people who don't care for Rap/hip-hop

Postby hive_king » Fri Jan 26, 2007 6:41 pm

For those of you who do like rap and hip-hop, if we go by what our mod, jayelle, has ruled, you shouldn't post on this thread.

One problem I have with the genre is that reading the lyrics for a good portion (not all, but a lot) of the songs you come across an amazing amount of violence, gross materialism, pride, misognony, and hate. That, and the styles associated with the music are just ridiculous. Remember, if you're a rap/hip-hop fan, you can't post here.
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet him, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

At what point did jayelle state that people who don't like rap can't post?

At any rate, if that is the case, then this post should be deleted, because it has no purpose...it's here just to provoke people which shouldn't be tolerated imo.

Hey guys, this thread title says "Rap/Hip Hop Fans" , let those who are fans discuss their music without a constant bombardment of "your music sucks".

I would say that about country. Which probably explains why I hate country.

The style? Or the negative traits it reinforces?

Okay...I don't see how that applies here. You started the topic in order to provoke us...you don't really find any enjoyment in talking about why you hate rap...the only reason you enjoy it is because you know it's torment to people who do like rap...

Look, I just want a place to debate it....

I don't really care if people go in the other thread (but that's not my choice I suppose).

And it doesn't seem like there's any purpose to having two different topics and the chatters of one are not allowed in the other!!!

Let's debate this thing!

Oh no, lum, you're on to me. My whole existance revolves around making rap fans feel inferior. Never mind that there are legitimate reasons to dislike rap. Nevermind that you don't know what does or does not cause me pleasure. Nevermind that since we can no longer post in the other thread, we still need somewhere to talk about hip hop. Nevermind another glaringly obvious reasons I made this thread that you'd notice if you had the intellegence God gave a tree stump.

Besides, this thread title says "for people who don't care for Rap/Hip Hop. That means you're excluded. Go away. Now.

There are lots of legitimate reasons to dislike rap :) And it's a personal opinion, and I make no judgment against those who dislike rap! I dislike most rap!

The negative traits. Murder, adultery, hate, theft...just some things I've heard or seen in country.

I can't say we've been hit too strongly with a country style here and the bit that is here can't possibly get on my nerves (tight pants, plaid shirts/t-shirts, boots and baseball caps)...unless you can count Daisy Dukes. But those are worn by women across many different styles.

I like medieval and renaissance music. And classic rock.

And Canadian folk.

Not so much a hip-hop fan. How on earth do people dance to that?

Plaid shirts and tight pants are fine by me. *is so not wearing a plaid shirt and tight pants*

*bites back urge to force Alea to listen to my collection of non-mainstream country music that, while not to everyone's taste, is certainly not violent/misogynistic, etc.*

Anyways, there are certain songs in any genre that deal with those things.

It's more of a shuffle than a dance.

*thinks*

If you really want to go by negative reinforcement for music, you must also include punk rock, emo, heavy metal, classic rock..... and many more.

They each go on about either drugs, bombs, death, suicide, sexual abuse, etc.... all very negative aspects.

I'd sooner call this thread... the limited taste in music thread, because in the end we are left with classical and maybe some techno, provided it doesn't promote the use of violence and drugs.

As you said that in rap you come across.. violence, gross materialism, pride, misognony, and hate, well most punk songs are pretty much the use of the eff word towards the government, a form of hate. I have never seen a genre of music promoting self mutilation and suicide, more than the emo genre. Thats a form of violence, and the list pretty much goes on.

I personally don't care much for rap, and am more into jazz, blues, classic rock, but really, to each his own i guess.
