For the manga... I'm working my way through as much of it as I can find. Neither are complete, to my knowledge.

Also, I must be one of the only people who does not like Cowboy Bebop. And all those people told me I would like it if I liked Outlaw Star... bah.

I really liked Evangelion, even both endings (although EoE has more storyline, so I suppose I like it better), though I do prefer the manga thus far. I think the anime opening sequence is just plain awesome, too.

Next on the agenda (come this fall):

Also, in that case, you may not like Samurai Champloo. I liked it a lot, but it's by the guy who did Bebop, and I liked Bebop.

And, well, I started watching Yu Yu Hakusho on a recommend, but I'm not a big fan of the "A fight! Okay, now lets get to another fight! Character development? HA!"

And, well, Welcome to the NHK hits close to home. Not MY home. But I know people. And it hits their homes.

Guilty Pleasures:
Azumanga Daioh

Ack!! I don't know how I forgot to list Azumanga Daioh (fixing that now), as that is definitely my favorite comedy so far. I don't see how it's a guilty pleasure, though... it is an awesome series, and I am proud to have seen it. Hmm, perhaps that is a good item for what manga I should look at next.

I've been wondering about Welcome to the NHK, but I don't know if it will just make me feel weird or sad or something.

Oh, it's pretty hilarious, that's for sure. But the guy who gave it to me is pretty much exactly like the hikikomori in the show. Well, maybe less paranoid. That's all. And, well, it's a pretty extreme case, so I'd recommend it. And if you feel sad afterward, there's a confessions thread for that.

I was watching Cosby Bebop again today for some reason, and since Bebop was mentioned a little before, I thought it had enough to do with this thread to post, if others have not seen it yet. Most edits of Bebop's opening I've seen seem pretty good, just in general. Bebop had a good opening.

Started watching Trigun. I have a feeling the dubbing's another fine example of Anglo inability to do credible voice acting, but I'm sticking with it for the story.

Started Death Note manga. We saw the first few episodes at Star Con and the two are really close, as far as the story goes. I'm enjoying it, but is it just me, or does the story move waaay too quickly?

Oh, just you wait. at one point they skip over four years or so in a few pages.

I just found out that my DVD (burned) of Trigun was one the DVD I lent to my neighbor--the neighbor I had in the dorms at the college I just transfered from. In other words, disappointment. It also means I won't be reinstalling Final Fantasy VIII anytime soon.

On a slightly different note, my friend was telling me that they were watching the dubbed version of Trigun and was surprised when suddenly the voice of Spike Spiegel popped up in a crowd scene. I was momentarily disappointed I only had the subbed version; I prefer the subbed, but it's sometimes fun to watch one and then the other. You see the differences in inflection and such.

I liked Trigun's dub. Then I realized that Vash's VA was a Power Ranger and the 4th wall was completely shattered.

ok i saw the word anime and had to post something about Initial D.. i am currently obsessed with it. its an anime about street racing how cool is that? ok granted, the art kinda sucks but it gets better.. and it really grows on you after a while. i recomend it to every one. its awesome.

I recently watched "Princess Mononoke" for the first time in quite a long time, and (believe it or not) for the first time ever subbed rather than dubbed. First of all, I'd forgotten how much I enjoy that movie. Second, I think I actually like the English cast better! That's not to say that the Japanese cast isn't great, but I've heard people complain that the dubbing detracts from the film. While that's often true with anime, a lot of the time I think it's just elitism. Both versions of "Princess Mononoke" are excellent. I guess I'm more accustomed to the dub though.

Even people who don't normally like anime should watch this movie.

I tend to find that whichever you watch first, you are more attached to. My friend watched Bebop subbed first, is the only person I know to have done so, and cannot stand the English cast, whereas everyone else I know think that it is of the highest quality for dubbed anime.

I suppose it's kind of like how everyone thinks that THEY had the best childhood? No, more like how everyone remembers their childhood as better than it is now?

I can't come up with a good metaphor, but there is one out there.

Just finished Death Note. I thought they could've done more with what happened to Misa after light died, but I liked the last volume all the same. Now I need another series to read...

I know I can't watch CB dubbed. It makes my ears bleed.

As for PM, I find I can watch most Miyazaki films either subbed or dubbed, and oddly enough I prefer Castle in the Sky dubbed. That comes down largely to the musical score, though, and a few particular moments in the movie.

I first time I saw Outlaw Star it was dubbed, and I think I saw the whole series dubbed before I saw a single sub of it. Maybe it's just because the dub of Outlaw Star sucks, but I certainly do prefer the sub of it, and I absolutely cannot stand the dubs of certain episodes.

I think you'd also be hard-pressed to find someone who prefers the dub of R.O.D. (though I saw the sub first, so I can't say).

I also have only seen Bebop subbed. Maybe I would've watched it again dubbed for comparison, but I'm not really a fan of Bebop...

Last anime I watched was Chobits, but best one was Fullmetal Alchemist- really, really good, just make sure you catch it in Japanese and not English...

Actually I think that FMA's dub is really good, except for the voices of Envy and Gluttony.

Really? I HATED the English voice for Alphonse. It was just... wrong.

In what way? I thought Ed and Al were perfect.

I just had to post this for all the FMA fans out there (too bad blueantoidgirl is no longer around). It's an english version of the song "brothers" that all FMA fans know and love, sung by Edward's english voice actor, Vic Mignogna. It's almost enough to bring a tear to my eye.

In unrelated anime news, I'm watching the series "Death Note", which I'm enjoying.

I asked a Russian co-worker about that song once. She told me it was rather antique Russian, not something you'd normally hear today. That's cool to hear it in English.

I'm thinking of watching Ghost in the Shell soon. Does anyone have a recommended viewing order? I was thinking of watching the first two movies, then the series, then the last movie. But I'm not entirely sure on the relationship between the series/movies; this is just from a cursory scan of GitS in general.

Edit: I'm also in the middle of watching Excel Saga which I find hilarious. And Hi no Tori may be on my manga to-read list.

The only GitS movie that is related to the series is the latest one, "Solid State Society", which I haven't actually seen yet. It's a sequel to the two series.

So you have the movies: GitS and GitS 2: Innocence, which are their own story, then you have the two series: GitS: Stand Alone Complex, and GitS: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig, and the movie mentioned above.

The order that you suggested is fine, or you could even watch the series and the last movie first, and then the first 2 unrelated movies.

GitS: SAC was interesting. Some episodes I liked a lot more than others (usually anything standalone I didn't think was that great), but the last few episodes were pretty awesome. Am I the only one to find the Tachikoma incredibly annoying? (Except for their performance at the end, though.) The "Tachikomatic Days" things made me grin a few times, though, however silly they were.

Also, opening theme/animation is pretty awesome. But I just realized that I tend to like almost all openings.

I'll probably follow up with 2nd Gig sometime, but not immediately. For now, I'm looking at Macross (Robotech is the first anime I ever saw more than one episode of, and I haven't seen it in a very long time), and finishing Excel Saga.

MIYAZAKI!!!!!! I love him so much. I used to watch Sailor Moon, still do when I'm bored. Little bit of Naruto and Inuyasha

You know what my brother got me for Christmas...?

2 seasons of Dragon Ball Z on DVD! The entire Namek/Freeza saga! In the last 8 or so years I've seen a lot of anime that is superior to DBZ in every way... or so I'd thought. Once I started watching it, it was like I was suddenly 15 again. Those were the days! I don't care what anyone says, DBZ will always hold a special place in my heart.
