I just made bread sticks for the first time on a whim...

They're awesome! I'll never want to buy them again!

Tonight I threw together a mushroom cream sauce for pasta because we had mushrooms that needed cooking. Despite no recipe and never doing it before, it turned out awesome, all delicious and garlicky!

Jamie Oliver's Superb Squash Soup

I pre-roasted the squash, and ended up adding a glug of scotch and the crumbled sage leaves instead of putting them on the top as garnish. 'Tis very tasty. I might not have gone for a squash soup on my own, but we had some decorative Thanksgiving gourds being cleared away, and hey, why not cook 'em?

Farts.

You know, I love having Boyfriend visit... and I appreciate his doing the dishes...

But he knows it's a small kitchen! You can't fart in small spaces!

Yes. Boys should know they can only fart outside or in the bathroom. And especially not in the car. There are rules.

One of the girls who lives upstairs is a phenomenal cook. She gave me her wheat bread recipe and it smells wonderful. Cannot wait to eat it.

I feel like quoting myself is some sort of awful post-whoring. Ah well.

Bread=delicious. Maybe a little undercooked, but I like it that way.

And sorry about that, Helen. My broccoli farts get everywhere these days...

So, remember a couple pages back on this thread when I was all "Imma make molded chocolates for Christmas!" and Fred was all "Let me know how that works out for you, because it sucked for me."

Fred, you are totally right. It's so much harder then I expected. Tempering didn't make a difference, cooling them in different places didn't make a difference. They ended up crumbly and kinda whitish. And the online resources are all "Yeah, that might happen *shrug*".

SO! I am making truffles, which are easier and less stupid (and were what Adam's Alton Brown video was about in the first place).

Sea Salt Chocolate Truffles, made with sea salt that we boiled ourselves from North Atlantic Sea Water. Which should hopefully make it an awesome gift.
One Duck to rule them all.

I don't feel so alone now! Nothing I tried worked, it was so, so frustrating! Your truffles sound amazing, I love chocolate and sea salt <3! I'm getting ready to attempt some apple cider caramels to send to Will's family along with the usual Homemade Oreos.

Santa hat brownies!

I will admit the brownies are from a box.. but I made the frosting from scratch. It's a marscapone buttercream and it's AMAZING! (It would be better if I had made it with a mixer... it would be smoother.)

Just a few of the scents in my apartment at the moment:

Christmas tree, pumpkin cream cheese muffins, ginger snaps, pear and cranberry crumble.

As in buffalo wings, spicy buffalo? I love hot sauce so this sounds like it could be interesting at the very least. Mind sharing a recipe/list of ingredients? :)

Melt 1/2 stick butter (i do more like 3/4) in microwave.

Mix 3 cups each of wheat and rice chex in large microwaveable bowl. Add two cups each of pretzels and parmesean cheezits.

Mix 1 packet ranch mix and 2 1/2 (i used double that)tbsp of hot sauce with the butter and mix with cereal mix.

microwave 4-5 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes.

spread to cool on papertowels

I have homemade Oreos cooling, and i'm about to start the apple cider caramels!

UPDATE!

5 hours later...

So, completely burned the super yummy local cider while trying to reduce it. Will ran to the store to get some different cider and apparently Safeway doesn't have ANY cider. Ended up getting Simply Apple juice instead and went ahead with the recipe. I also didn't have the 8in square pan it called for, so I decided to use my silicone mini brownie pan and i'll just cut each one in half, which will give me the exact size I want.

Right now it's in the fridge cooling, and it tastes amazing. Lets hope it turns out alright!
