Halo

Now; there is some confusion as to whether this trailer is in reference to "the movie" or to a new game. The content is pre-Halo 1, and in addition, is CGI rather than live-action as we are (currently) told the movie will be; thus, I would think it is for a new game. However, "Halo 3" is already in production, and will not take place prior to the events of Halo 1. So this may be seen as an entirely new game, a prequel (Halo 0?) taking place with the first Covenant invasion of Earth.

REGARDLESS, this trailer the shizzle. Watch it and cream yourself.

It says "Halo Wars" at the end so I'm guessing this a trailer for the new strategy game coming out of that name.

It does look amazing.

Perhaps I have been wrong - there is a god.

No gods here, just the Forerunners and an AI who's getting a little too smart for her own good.

Considering the Halo movie has been put on hiatus it shouldn't be that hard to figure out...

Too bad it's just a RTS... meaning the real game will look nothing like this.

If this were Halo 3, that would be awesome... but it seems like Halo 3 is going to look more or less exactly like Halo (and Halo 2) from the screenshots released so far which is a huge disappointment.

RTS graphics are getting better. I tend to use the Blizzard games to illustrate that. Look how much the graphics have improved from WC1 to WC2 to SC to WC3. Personally, I kinda prefer SC's graphics over WC3. Some types of detail are easier and look nicer in isometric 2D than in true 3D in my opinion.

In any case, I expect Halo Wars' graphics and gameplay to set new standards in the RTS genre. I doubt Bungie's perfectionism would allow for anything less. (assuming this has their approval and isn't just some cash cow straight from Microsoft)

And how is Halo 3 looking like Halo 2 a bad thing? The trailer looks awesome, and you have to remember that's all preproduction footage and just shows what their aiming for, not really what the final game will be. Some of that stuff may be dropped, while others could be made even better. And I wouldn't doubt it if they try to implement some of the things from the Halo 2 trailers that didn't make it into the game.

You do realize those are the same link, right? :stoned:

So does the guy who says "Negative sir, I think we lost him." sound like RvB's Caboose to anyone else?

That shield grenade looks pretty sweet. I hear there's supposed to be a spike grenade as well that's kind of a combination of the frag and plasma grenades, except I think it's supposed to stick to walls instead of people.

And before anyone jumps to any conclusions about what the game will look like, I present this quote from Bungie's newspost about the ad:
The image below isn't from Halo 3 gameplay folks, it's from the upcoming TV ad - scheduled to run this Monday, 4th of December, during Monday Night Football on ESPN. The CG was created by Hollywood FX house, Digital Domain, using assets supplied by Bungie. We're very excited about the way they've managed to capture the Chief and other elements and clues from the Halo universe. What are those? You'll have to tune in to find out.

The guys who made the commercial although it doesn't appear to be on their site (yet). I wonder if they're afraid the Halo fanatics will overload their servers. :stoned:

They've made a lot of other pretty cool commercials too and have worked on some pretty big movies (including LotR, it seems). I wonder if there's any plans for them to do effects for the Halo movie...

This is my last post for now, I promise. :stoned:

New Halo 2 Maps + Halo 3 Beta + Halo Wars + Eventual Release of Halo 3 = Almost enough leverage to get me to buy a 360.
