I must say, having an RSS feed here might finally convince me to actually get/use a reader..., so I have to go against that.

Suggestion: a more impartial corps of mods. I have to say (and I don't mean any offense to the moderators, they're great people) that the moderation here is not very good compared to other places I've been. Either it's too draconian or too lax, and one of the biggest problems is that the mods aren't impartial.

the mods were all approved by Ami, and since it's her site, i'm pretty sure she wouldn't have picked them if she didn't think they could perform their functions well.

Honestly, it seems to me that most people here who are not perpetual s***-disturbers seem to be fine with our mods.

This is actually a very impartial set of mods. Based on what i know of their personal opinions of people, if they acted on those, a lot of people that accuse them of impartiality would be in a s***** more trouble than they are.

Well, not everybody agrees. You can't improve if you just write off everybody who disagrees with you.

I have an idea! Lets make Eriador a mod. :stoned:

I'd take it, but before you try, I'd like to warn you that I'd be a terrible mod. Sure, I'd try my best, but in the end I would be no better than the biased ones we already have. Sorry to rain on your parade Nick.

Heh, as I recall.... it was rather first-ask, first-serve.

That said, no complaints here.

Well, if zero's right, I propose that we demote all our mods and get new ones on a merit-based system. But only if zero's right.

He actually wasn't right... It sort of worked out that way, but that is not how it happened behind the scenes.

Merit-based, it'd be the same batch of people.

The mods were chosen based on merit. Certain people spoke up, and they were a) mods on pweb II, or b) people who had been long-standing potentials. Long-time oldbies who were known to be reasonable, dependable, and fair.

Pweb II died, so you can't easily see its history. That's a real shame, because your coup attempt would be even funnier if it still existed.

Coup attempt? I never said that. I'm just a stupid kid with nothing to do.

Suggestion: I propose we have a monthly competition, and get to vote one member off the Pweb Island. What do you think?

Suggestion: better, clearer rules in all forums.

We've got them in the religion forum. Other boards have a forum dedicated to them. We have the terms and conditions that we agree to at the beginning... which are hard to find. I don't know where to turn to see what I did wrong last night.

i disturb no s*** and don't care for most of the choices in mods. never really have been fond of the mods here.

with a couple exceptions. john being one of them.

Okay, a slight bit of clarification of my perception of things. It was almost certainly partially merit-based, in the vain that mods had to be above a certain level of merit. I assume that if some random newbie stopped by that day and asked, that they wouldn't be running the place now. But, since nobody did, I cannot actually say that it wouldn't have happened, heh.

Kindly ask Ami to find a place that doesn't feel the need to shut itself down for days at a time every few months?

Pweb 2.0, to my recollection, was never this bad about going offline.

We will actually be moving this to another server beginning of next week.

Same address or a different one?

Will our posts on this one be lost?

Assuming Amka backs up the database, everything will still here after the move.

We're doing this with foreknowledge (unlike the last one) so we'll have full backup.

Basically, what will happen is during transfer we'll have to freeze the forum while it is on this server, we'll have everything saved and copy it onto the new server. When we have that so it is upgraded and running smoothly, we'll change domain servers and then it will all be functioning.

I could do this without freezing it, but every post between backup and switching on to the new server would disappear.

Any estimate on how long this freezing period will last?

Nice to see you again, by the way.

And what zero said; it is good to see you posting.

The freezing time, unfortunately, has to do with register.com and their very slow switch over on domain names. It may be up to a couple of days.

But, it will be working (the new PhpBB version is already installed, but the database is not yet there for obvious reasons) on the new server.

Another thing that is being installed into Pweb is a content manager for the rest of the site, and we will be finally able to have user input there.

Apparently I can still post replies? Hm... the data seems about a week old, though.
