Well, Christmas came a little early for me this year.

A user on the site wanted to show their gratitude for it and get me something... So they got me this:

Image

A giant bottle of Applejack!
Now, I rarely drink, but this is good stuff. =)

What are you hoping to get this year?

That is very cool! It's nice to be appreciated for hard work; I'm sure you deserve it.

Since I don't know what I've gotten this year, besides some candy and Star Wars Christmas ornaments from my work Secret Santa, what I hope to get are picture frames and warm clothes. And breathable clothes for summer. Socks, books...

Yes, I have turned into an old, boring adult.

Really, I just want to see my family. That is present enough and that I will definitely get to do.

Before we left for my in-laws place, we opened gifts at home.

Two of my best Christmas Gifts so far were these two books:

Smitten Kitchen speaks for itself.

Saga is an amazing graphic novel by Brian K. Vaughan (who wrote Y the Last Man). It's an on-going series and I really, really enjoy it. A great mix of sci-fi and fantasy elements. Epic, but also funny.

My girlfriend and I exchanged gifts early this year. She got me the perfect present:

It's my first pocket watch, and I absolutely love it! There's an inscription on the front that says "Hours past and future" :-)

Christmas gifts could stop right now and I would be completely happy. My parents wanted to surprise me with the new phone i've been wanting, but failed to realize if they activate it, my old phone will stop working. So I got that one a little early. Will got me a 6 quart Lodge dutch oven and Lego Harry Potter for XBox, and his Mom got me a glass bowl for my KitchenAid mixer.

But... all places that give you recommendations about making gifts to women say women hate getting house appliances!

It's in the internet, it must be true!

(Personally, i would love to get that one :D congrats!)

Chris can buy me appliances as a gift as long as they aren't for cleaning, and something I've asked for. For example my amazing belgian waffle maker and this awesomeness that it the kitchenaid mixer.
Now I know some women would angry and offended if their husband/boyfriend gave them an appliance but I love to cook and Chris likes to give "functional gifts" I will never be gifted jewelry and rarely get flowers less than 5 times in the 8 years we have been together. But he buys me really well thought out gifts that I use over and over.
So as far as giving a woman an appliance. I think its fine but asking first is a good idea. when he bought me the first one he came to me a month before my birthday and said
"I think I know what I want to get you for your birthday but everyone says I'm not supposed to buy a girl an appliance"
" is it one that I want?"
"Yes"
"will I use it to clean?
"no"
" then screw everyone and get it for me. you always get me great gifts so I'm sure I'll love it"

and I did

Steph:

I just ordered myself a good toaster oven that toasts consistently (my mom and SIL have the same model). It was expensive but hopefully worth it. My current, cheapy toaster oven really sucks and I use it every day!

That looks so cool! I kind of want one for me.

Also, some of the aprons on that site are freaking adorable; I wouldn't have much use for one but if I ever do, I'll try to remember to look there.

This is actually the first year the majority of my gifts haven't been kitchen related. I did get a cook book and a dutch oven, but those are perfect gifts for me. My family knows I love to cook, and it just makes sense to get me what I love.

Steph, your apron is adorable. I love my apron so much I have a hard time cooking with it on because I don't want to get stuff all over it (I know, that's what it's for)!

I got an e-reader! It's a Kobo Mini (which I think is a Canadian thing). I was totally floored that my brother-in-law got it for me. So awesome.

Our house (when we get back home) will be flooded with ponies. Ginny got her Applejack and the three Cutie Mark Crusaders and my sister-in-law gave Maggie the little Canterlot train with Pinkie Pie. That rounds out our pony collection - we now have all of the main six in actual hasbro toy (not McD's), plus Princess Celestia and the aforementioned Crusaders. I think I'm more happy about it then the kids are. :)

I love my apron so much I have a hard time cooking with it on because I don't want to get stuff all over it (I know, that's what it's for)!
I got over this by building my apron wardrobe. I have 6-7 cute ones, so now I can feel comfortable using them and know that I can get another cute one if I ruin one! :)
-A sister-in-law! (and hopefully nieces and nephews soon :) )
Fun!!

And Jan, Kinley is excited about your ponies. Kinley got a plush Pinkie Pie from her Grandpa and she just loves her! (And thanks, Alea, for telling us which one she was! Our library really needs to get the series DVDs so Kinley can watch them.)

Socks! Yay socks!

I was also given some clothes from both sets of parents, chocolate letters (from myself), a bottle of 12-year Glenfiddich (mmmmm), and some awesome handmade stuff from my sister. There's 7 of us siblings now, counting spouses, and we felt we were all getting a bit old to *need* to receive expensive gifts from each other, so we decided it was handmade year, and we drew names. I was given some homemade Christmas Cream (aka Baileys, but better), lemony bath salts, and homemade lip balm. I have awesome family. :D
