LEGOs in Your (Read: My old) Library

Postby Gravity Defier » Mon Jul 23, 2012 9:37 pm

So, first, let me link to the actual page so you can go straight there after you open this thread :wink: : http://www.readbuildplay.com/index.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now for the wordy part. LEGO is going to be giving one library in the country $5000 to buy supplies for their library and the top 200 will earn a literacy toolkit. While it is entirely possibly your own local library is in this -or will be if you decide to nominate them- I am asking, if you have no personal preference or connection to your library to vote for my old library district.

It is in Arizona obviously but it will ask for the city name. I don't feel comfortable putting that out in public, since my hometown is small enough to make it feel unwise, but if you want to help and don't know the name of my hometown, I can PM the name to you.

Voting is once a day (per computer) until October, so you'd do a huge favor voting at least once but an even bigger favor voting as many times as you can for a few months.

Thanks in advance, even if you can't/don't want to/don't remember to/whatever help. :)

It asks for which branch, which I don't know. PM me?

I feel American when I vote via dropdowns on a colorful site. If I didn't know better I'd think I was voting for President.

Our library has a LEGO club which my younger brother helped found. I'll probably nominate them. This seems like a pretty cool program though :)

I think that's pretty great, elf. I definitely think people who are invested in their own libraries should vote for them; it only makes sense. And really, at the end of the day, as long as people are supporting libraries in general, I think it's a good thing for our communities.

And sincere thanks to anyone who has or is going to continue to vote on my behalf. It means a lot. (Seriously, I'm checking the numbers every so often and getting way excited that, regardless of who is voting for my old library, its numbers doubled overnight.)

Doot, doot, doot; if you're not all voted-out from the other day (was that just yesterday? I can't remember when I posted and I'm not going to look), this goes every day, from every computer/connection you have, until October, so any and all votes are appreciated!

I got 5 votes in yesterday from my personal computer and 4 at work. I have a feeling my old library will not catch up to the leader but it's worth a shot.

I'm pretty sure that is a Syphonism that I've picked up. But he is pretty cool so I'm okay with imitating him.

I keep forgetting to vote. This needs to stay right on top.

I'll be voting once from home and once from school daily if I can. The only thing is that the captcha's getting on my nerves.

Is there a means of messaging every active user? Or e-mailing them? If all registered users (or maybe just active ones) were encouraged to vote daily for a month then we'd overtake the leader.

Any user who's actually active will probably see this thread if we keep it near the top. Even lurkers.

I've been voting daily.

Same here, only I can't do it at school. Home's fine but the school computers (for some unknown reason) don't display the captcha, making it impossible for me to cast my vote there.

Another good thing about being home: another computer to vote from! Assuming I remember to do so.

I've voted every day, with the exception of the time I was in D.C. without a computer. I don't, however, expect that level of commitment from others but am genuinely touched that anyone even wants to try.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks. :) I was mostly being sad about the drop in general and not because Pwebbers are expected to do anything about it. I would post something on Facebook to remind people but I don't want to be obnoxious and I don't want the new coworkers to think I'm talking about new library; that feels dishonest.

Man, a little bummed. The library dropped from a high of 12 to somewhere in the 20s.

If every member of that community voted even just once, it would blow every last library out of the water (thus far). Damn apathetic people (in some cases...in others it's lack of computer).

Make a QR code that takes people to the link to vote when they take a pic of the QR code with their phone, Then, ask everyone checking out books to scan the QR code as they check out and vote to support the library.

I would've said to set up a net virus that inhabited every terminal it could and set up a daily voting routine, but that's cheating and besides, they've got that ever-irritating CAPTCHA.

Well, I could do that here...but no way to reinforce that desire where I'm asking for votes to go.
