Dear Pweb (a landmark of sorts)

Dear Pweb (a landmark of sorts)

Postby Eaquae Legit » Wed Feb 29, 2012 2:46 pm

Yesterday I taught my Latin class the ablative absolute construction. Ten years ago, almost exactly (wayback won't cooperate in my pinning down the date), I asked pweb for help understanding that very construct. Ten years. A whole decade. That's a lot of Latin, and a heck of a lot of life.

So here are some other numbers that reflect my decade on pweb.

3 relationships, 2 engagements, 1 marriage.
1 child.
16 addresses, or 14 depending on how you count them.
2 degrees, 1 in process.
4 International Congresses of Medieval Studies, 1 International Medieval Congress, 2 minor conferences.
3 (minor) publications.
4 papers delivered.
11 jobs.
15 flights.
5 countries visited, including 4 states and 3 provinces.
14 funerals and 7 weddings.
7 children of people who I knew before they even got married.
4 911 calls.
5 pairs of running shoes, 4 bathing suits, 2 bikes.
1 mini-triathlon and 1 swimathon.
3 lifeguarding certifications and 5 first-aid certifications.
9 pwebbers met, 4 more talked to on the phone, mail exchanged with 4 more.
Way more weddings and kids if you count pwebbers!
2 crashes and 3 faces of pweb.
12-16 usernames (I'm not actually sure anymore, to be honest).

... and probably a couple thousand ablative absolutes. No way am I going to try to count those.

Thanks for a good decade, Pweb.

*Toasts (with sparkling cider) to Ali*

Happy 10 years, my friend!
The best kind of toast!

EL, congrats on the life achievements under your belt, like you said, that's a whole lot of life to go by! And since you're in the field of medieval studies, I wonder if you've heard of, or met, Jonathan Evans?

Also, I think 10 years is about how long I've been lurking on pweb trying to glean updates about the movie (even though I've only been a member for about 3.5 years at this point)!

That sounds like a really intense and awesome 10 years. I'm pretty sure my 10-year anniversary won't be nearly as exciting.

*returns the toast*

I totally missed my anniversary, but for some reason teaching ablative absolutes really made me think of the time passed.

Elfprince, nope, haven't heard of a Jonathan Evans, but it's a very diverse field.

Holy crap, this means I'm coming up on my 10 year.

You make me feel old, EL. Ten years is a long time. Congratulations on being here this long! We're a crazy bunch.

hear the bells are

Oh well! Just thought I'd ask :) What are your specialties within it? Something Latin related?

Hahaha, more or less. I use Latin, but I'm not a philologist. I work with mental impairment and community responses. Specifically, for my thesis, in England c. 1350-1450. My interests are broader, but my thesis is necessarily narrowed down to that.

If they are old, then I'm ancient. Almost 12 years now. Sheesh. No wonder I'm getting all these grey hairs!
