Texas Cheer Moms

Postby powerfulcheese04 » Thu Nov 09, 2006 11:40 am

Has anyone seen it?

It's a new show on TLC about cheerleaders and their mothers in Texas... and it is set at my high school.

Apparently the district does not endorse the show because they "feel misled" about the content.

I missed the premiere episode (facebook hadn't gotten me interested enough in it 'til the group "Texas Cheer Moms is the best thing to happen to Waco since David Koresh")

I'm excited to see it on Monday (at 7 EST).

I find that highly disturbing.

If I were you, I would despise having to go to that high school. I pity you.

I've never heard of the show, but that is a great tag-line.

I think cheer moms are like beauty pageant moms. Hyper involved and living vicariously.

I'm glad that I graduated from the high school before they did the filming thing. So glad.

i believe there are two types of cheer moms. here's what they do:

type 1:
Excessive drug use, alcohol consumption, and sleeping around.

type 2:
living out their teenage failings by pushing their children to do the things that they were unable to do successfully. overbearing. overwhelmingly supportive. if you don't cheerlead exact to their specifications they go nuts. horrible parents.

that could just be my view of things though.

Cheer mom's are like pageant moms. And overbearing is defiantly a trait.

I know that all (or at least most) stereotypes get started in the first place because there is truth in them... and as for all of the stereotypes about cheerleading culture, definitely. But it seems a little ridiculous to go around saying that all mothers who's children are in cheerleading are overbearing, alchoholic, adulturous control freaks living out their own highschool insecurities through their daughters' sporting preferences. My best friend growing up did competitive cheerleading all the way through highschool and repeatedly went to national competitions, and yes, while she was blonde and highly popular in highschool was in no way the queen bee cliche, and her mother was the sweetest woman you could ever meet.

Maybe really this is just about Texas. :p

Cheerleading sucks.

actually, i've never cheered, and i've never really been super-close with anyone who has, but--social hierarchies totally aside--those girls work.

i couldn't do HALF the physical stuff they're able to do. so, they get respect from me purely on that.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

One of my best friends was a cheerleader (she did it for the gymnastics aspect, and quit because she hated the spirit part :D ). She is insanely talented. However, she doesn't have a cheer mom, so I have no idea what one is like.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

Yeah, i know! My mom's an overbearing, alchoholic, adulturous control freak, and my sisters were never cheerleaders!

Just kidding, my mother's a very nice lady when she's not cussing like a sailor.
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet him, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

Janelle, mothers-of-cheerleaders and cheer moms are different things! Much like mothers-of-soccer-players and soccer moms are different things. :)

You just don't want to admit that it's really just your state.

It's really just about Waco, not the whole state. Everyone knows Waco breeds sickos. Like Kim for example. :stoned:

I can vouch that cheer moms that are not the only ones like that. I knew quite a few Dance moms that were pretty bad. Thank god, my mom was not like that.

But I think the whole cheer mom phenomenon is a Texas thing.

Your lame attempt at flaming sucks.
It got people to respond did it not? So while you may be pissed off at what I said it provoked you to respond.

If it sucked why did you respond.

I watched the show tonight. It was AMAZING in an "ohmigod I can't believe this involves my school... hoooooray." kind of way.
