There's been a lot of questions so far.

Right now the easiest option to upload an avatar is to use the "link to" option. Not the "upload from PC," not the "upload from URL."

If you're still having trouble, post here and maybe someone can help.

And if you're having trouble meeting the "under 6k" requirement, try the "save to the web" option instead of a normal save.

Note to self: Reading means READING EVERY WORD. Not just the ones that make you think that the options plainly mentioned as not working will actually work.
