Those Things That Make You You

Postby Satya » Thu Oct 06, 2011 1:06 pm

Every day I drive down a 2-lane highway into work. It's frequented by many semi-tractor-trailers and delivery trucks.

Every time one of these huge 18-wheelers is coming down the other lane and we cross paths, I have a massive, involuntary shiver that shakes my whole body, head to toe just as we are parallel.

I just thought I'd share.

Thank you.

I was just thinking about one of these today!

I only eat fries that are fairly square on both ends. I don't like pointy ended fries. This is because I don't particularly like really crispy fries, I prefer them meaty. But also, it automatically helps limit my portion size. I end up eating about 1/3 to 1/2 of a small size. It works best if I am sharing with someone else but if I'm not, I just throw them away (I know!).

Most of my things are probably indicative of mental health issues...

*In college, I sat in the same seat for every lecture thoughout the semester. I would get angry at people who didn't notice this and sit as close as I could to that seat, without actually sitting next to them.

*I will not sit by a stranger in the movie theater and if one sits next to me when there are plenty of seats open, I will want to move seats (but probably won't because I'll feel bad about the potential snub).

*I have a favorite fork, bowl, and plate. If these are dirty, I'll use something else but they are always my first option and if someone else tries to use it for the same meal I'm about to sit down to, I demand they hand it over (and get them a new one).

*I walk the same path every time I go to Target. (This used to be a weekly trek but is now more like twice a year.)

Is this that unusual? I actually have moved fairly often, especially if they have perfume on or seem to be talkers. I even move if they are within my near vicinity (not just right next to me) if they offend one of my senses.

My thoughts exactly. If there are plenty of other open seats in the theatre and you sit RIGHT FREAKING NEXT TO ME it will piss me off. Why would you do that? Theatre seating is pretty cramped, you are in most normal people's personal space zone if you sit next to them in a theatre. It is only acceptable if there are few open seats, or the only open seats are in less than prime viewing locations.

I'm not really sure what peculiarities I have...

I can't stand to type with a keyboard on a desk. It is always in my lap.

I can't sleep if there is a clock ticking too loudly. I will stop it/pull the battery out if it is keeping me up. I also have to have a fan going, but it isn't for the noise--a ceiling fan will do. I just need the air circulation/cool breeze on my skin.

I am very particular about how I hang my clothes. The shirts and pants must all be on the hanger facing the same direction. I am also particular about how I fold my non-hanging clothes.

I hate to have the TV volume set to an odd number.

Whenever I have a sandwich I eat around the outside first, saving the delicious middle for last. I also do this with poptarts, large cookies, and sometimes hamburgers.

My closet is organized by item type (dress, skirt, short-sleeve, long-sleeve, etc.) and color. I like my clothes to face the center of the closet on their hangers.

I love Hawaiian pizza, but only with the pineapples removed. This technically makes it just Canadian bacon pizza, but plain Canadian bacon pizza is not the same.

I hate using plastic cups, bowls, or plates unless it is at a picnic-type event and they're the disposable kind.

When adjusting TV volume, I prefer it to be an odd number.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

Me too! And hot dogs. I eat from both ends towards the middle.

And I had no idea so many people did the TV volume thing. I know I've posted it here before. I like it to be an even number or a multiple of 5.

I like hawaiian pizza but with the ham taken off, so just pineapple pizza.

Same. I will for some reason feel like i'm hurting this person that i've never met's feelings. Whenever I go with a group of people I try to have at least one of them on either side of me so i'm not the one sitting next to a stranger.

I would move. And I would not take it personally if a stranger sitting next to me decided to move.

People have no way of knowing why you are moving and therefore no reason to feel offended.

Unless the theatre is packed, there is no real reason to sit check to jowl with a stranger.

I'm pretty sure that's a fairly normal thing. It's served that way sometimes on appetizer trays.

I chew on the inside of my cheeks and around the inside of my lips and have to chew each side evenly so they don't get jeleous and think I'm playing favorites.

Wow, I had never heard of the sandwich OR hot dog thing until last night when someone I was out with mentioned that he does them both.

And yeah, multiples of 5 are acceptable, too.

I always take steps two at a time. It really makes you notice how many staircases have an odd number of steps.

I thought of a maybe good one just now.

I don't go with rounded numbers on the microwave. For example, if I'm heating something up and it should be in for approximately 1:30, I'll do 1:31 or 1:29, or something close to but not 1:30.

You are strange.

My father does whatever gets him close with the fewest keypresses. 33 seconds instead of 30. 1:11 instead of a minute. 22 seconds rather than 15. It weirds me out for some reason.

I often do this, too, but I never seen to notice/remember when they have an odd or even number of stairs. It just doesn't... feel all that different to me.

I also go down stairs two at a time more often than is probably wise.

Edit: oh, and I used to do this all the time when I was a kid. Fun times!

Does anyone else have to (or just really, really want to) be able to touch the pedals of a car with their foot (or sock covered foot) and not a shoe? I haven't driven with a shoe on my right foot in so long, I'm kind of nervous to do it. I've generally made sure I'm wearing flip flops if I expect to be driving and barring my ability to do that, I just slip my tennis shoe or high heel or whatever I'm wearing off until I get to my destination, so I'm sitting there with one shoe on and one off.

I used to do that. Don't know when I stopped.

Whenever I hear the theme song to Star Trek: TNG, I pretend to be conducting an orchestra. I get very into it, sit up very tall, and use both hands. Best instrumental theme music ever.

I'm starting to do something similar for the NCIS theme music, but it's more bouncy dance than orchestra conducting. Kind of a mish-mash of the two. Second favorite instrumental theme music.

I think my driving instructor told me it might be illegal to drive without shoes on over here. I might be making that up, though.

Yeah, I've only driven barefoot/sock-footed a couple times (but I did not have a shoe with me to slip on) and I was really nervous about getting pulled over.

I heard that, too, but then I've also heard a police officer say that's one of those things they just let people think. To be honest, if it is illegal, for them to find out I'd have to have done something bad enough to warrant them asking me to step out of the car, at which point it's the least of my worries.

When I had my incident a few years ago, I was wearing flip flops and had my right one off so I was driving barefooted; no one noticed or ticketed me for it!

I don't think I have ever driven without a shoe on, but I have considered it when my flip flops annoy me. I even wore my five-inch wedges driving, which was probably more dangerous than not wearing anything.

One time, my brother attempted to drive while wearing snowboarding boots. Apparently free ankle movement is necessary for smooth driving. That was a fun drive down the mountain...
