New and Exciting Things about this New and Exciting Board

Postby Jayelle » Tue Sep 20, 2011 10:26 am

-Birthdays are back on the main page! Update it in your profile and it'll appear on the day

- There's a little "!" button on every post. If you notice spam or want to bring something to the mods attention, you can click that to report a post or thread. PLEASE don't over use that.

-New smilies! <--- like that one.

-Easier colours , Including white, which seems to be much more invisible on this board.
One Duck to rule them all.

Yay for birthdays! And I liked how in the profiles, it shows a user's most active board and thread. That's kinda cool.

I never realised how much I posted in Confessions...

I never realized I posted THAT much in Bob, relative to everywhere else.

I think I have the highest percentage in one topic of anyone except "Confessions."

I'm looking forward to the birthdays on the main page because I NEVER remember to check in the Foyer. If I'm not FB friends with a member, I usually forget to wish them a happy birthday.

ETA: The bulk of my posts are in Bob, which I think surprises exactly no one.

What surprises me is a bulk of my posts are in the Workout thread, and I absolutely hate working out. :-P

Question: on the icons beside each thread, some have a black dot at about 11:00 on the circle. I can't figure out what this means. It doesn't appear to be a part of the icon key at the bottom of the page, and it doesn't correlate to the number of views or posts within a thread as far as I can tell...

What does the black dot mean?! Someone tell me, before I drive myself mad.

ETA: I think I've figured it out! Does the black dot indicate that I've posted in a thread before? The threads I have never posted in are conspicuously sans dot. (And if that's the case, there are an awful lot of threads I don't post in).

After some examination, I think that the black dots appear in threads you have posted in. At least, that's my current hypothesis. I may go randomly post in the Allergies and Sinuses thread to try to prove myself right.

Yup! And the Allergies and Sinuses thread now proved the hypothesis.

And I'm kind of shocked at the number of threads I do post in.

I really like how the forum looks on my iPod touch. And that it tells me what thread I'm replying to. I regularly get confused. Also, what's with it being in British English? I don't speak British.

Here's a list of "new" features in PHPBB3. It's only slightly annoying that PHPBB3 came out a few months after we moved to PHPBB2 in 2006. :)

ETA: Looks like under new features there is a user log and mods/admins are able to see last activity. Perhaps if we decided to cull the inactive users we could see the last time they logged in under an account and use that information in addition to post counts to be sure we didn't delete someone who's just lurking.

I am WAY excited about the "Save Drafts" feature. Oh my GOSH. YAY.

Does "Attachments" mean we can actually, like, upload pictures from our computers rather than having to go through photobucket? Because that would be way, way, way awesome.

Also, I can't decide whether I like subsilver or fibuice (whatever it's called) better.

Oh, and can someone add Stoned Kermit? (I was kind of hoping for more smilies in this version. Sadness.)

ETA--A new, wonderful feature I just discovered: it tells you when posts were made while you were composing your post so you can rethink if needed. Genius.

It really is. Unfortunately, it took me a few times to figure it out. At first I was like, "What weird glitchiness is this?" Now I have learned a valuable lesson about reading the bold print at the top.

I've actually disabled the attachment thing for the time being, since I'm not sure where it gets stored and if it'll cause issues. It may get reinstated.

There's options for maximum image height and width, which could come in handy so we wouldn't need to remind people to resize things, but I don't know what would be reasonable. Suggestions? It's measured in pixels. I was thinking 800 or 1024 for width or whatever is needful so it doesn't stretch the board horizontally on smaller screens. Then probably the same for height so there's no favoritism between portrait and landscape.

Also would it be possible to bring back the rank stars? I'm not sure how that would work now that everyone has custom titles, but it would be nice to have them back all the same.

And I'd be in favor of changing the thread icons. Not sure what to, I just don't like the diamonds.

The thread icons are set as part of the theme/skin/style that you select. We can add a few more themes as needed, though we don't necessarily want more than 10 themes on the site.
