Things I Don't Understand

I don't understand why I can't get off the internet/computer and do stuff I consciously in my brain want to do more. Do I really need to play freecell five times instead of starting that movie or reading another chapter. No, I don't but there's something mindless and compelling about wasting time that I really don't understand because I'm always frustrated with myself afterwards.

Ugh, I know what you mean. I mindlessly play Solitaire and do sudoku online all the time when I want to be doing other things.

Mostly because I don't think we need a whole thread for all our different Things.

Things I Don't Understand
How I became a brony.

I will appreciate this a hell of a lot more or less depending on how it is you feel about/view Trixie.

Mostly, though, I think the whole idea of bronies is as cute/attractive as some women find men being kind to kids/pets is.

I googled it and I believe it is a male fan of My Little Pony: FIM series.

Yes, more or less. There's some room for debate whether or not that includes females who fall outside their original target demographics but definitely includes the males, who are the largest group of viewers (aged 18-35).

Speaking of things I don't understand...

Really, I'm not trying to put down MLP, but that doesn't make any sense. :?

How someone can be willing to spend 5000 to do surgery on their dog's mild neck pain but leave a mammary tumor in place for nearly a year so its had time to met all over, rendering surgery pointless..

I don't think anyone understands it. I also don't think any/many of the fans thought "oh man this sounds like a show that's going to be awesome" when they first heard about it, so while I try not to force things upon people... you just have to see it to somewhat understand.

(Also, this just comes up now? Does nobody read signatures?)

You know, I saw that in your signature awhile ago and kept meaning to look up what it meant but never remembered to. I figured it was something I wouldn't understand (like many things you talk about). :D

how it is you feel about/view Trixie
I don't know if I should be sorry about this or not because you gave no indication of what you yourself think about her. But as for me, I'm kind of indifferent. There was so little time given to the character it was hard to get strong feeling one way or the other. Definitely needs more of her though, there aren't enough foils/villain-ish characters.

And to the other questions, yeah, it is a little strange how it happens. You don't go into it thinking you're gonna become a big fan. I was just posting/lurking on /fit/ on 4chan, and these image macros started cropping up. They seemed to be coming from /b/, so I went over to see what was up. Started talking to the people in the thread, decided to give the show a shot (in my room through youtube through the PS3 so as not to let anyone else know), and I really liked it. Can't explain it.

Well, I've tried before. That it basically represents an antithesis to what's going on the grimdark world around us, and the vile and wretched holes of the internet amidst which it has developed a fanbase, and the general sense among this "non-target demographic" of the hopelessness of the world we inherited.

But I digress.

I'm just glad to see some bronies at Pweb. Maybe you'd like to read my fanfic? 8)

I didn't say how I felt quite intentionally; not that I think you're one to be swayed easily either way, but I didn't want to steer you. Nothing to be sorry about, in any event.

I don't mind indifference, since that's how I more or less started out with her character. I thought she was an attention whore and kind of bitchy but that it was in her character's nature to be so, so no biggie.

But the more I got a feel for the brony population, the more it dawned on me that with a decent sized sub-group, she turned into this almost Vader-esque character, where her villainy was seen as a cool thing, and I just couldn't accept that. She just hasn't earned that, in my opinion. She was a coward and thus far has shown no redeeming qualities.

The more I hear people fangirl/boy over her, the more I dislike her. I probably shouldn't react that way but I can't help it.

As for your fanfic, I'd give it a shot. It'd be a few days before I could get to it but if you don't mind that, I can PM an email address.

Everything about Trixie is correct. I think it's just that everyone wants to be 'cool' and say they're a fan of a more obscure/badguy character. As for my own favorite, well it's hard. AJ's probably most like me, but Rarity is awesome - and that seems to be a minority opinion.

- volunteers her time and energy to make them all look great for the big gala
- they all pretty much trash what she did, make her feel like s***
- she has to work twice as hard to redo everything for them
- the result is an abomination, makes her the laughingstock of the town
- ruins her reputation in front of an important person in her industry
- could very well have destroyed her business and career
- she isn't even pissed at them, just wants to be left alone for awhile
- all is forgiven when her reputation is salvaged

As for your fanfic, I'd give it a shot. It'd be a few days before I could get to it but if you don't mind that, I can PM an email address.
I've got it up on GoogleDocs, because it's about 17 thousand words+ and I submitted it to EquestriaDaily for publishing. I'll PM you the link.

I can't argue against any of that for Rarity. I could even add her giving Steven Magnet her tail as an act of selflessness, just off the top of my head. BUT, she still rubs me the wrong way. I don't think anyone claimed she was altruistic in her givings but man, she comes across to me as the type who does things for the glory of saying, "That's right, I totally did that." Bragging rights, if you will.

But yeah, I self-identify with Applejack the most. Hard-working and willing to help others but stubborn to a fault. Kind of plain/simple.

Can't deny that. I think maybe it's a need for attention, I dunno. She does do things to be recognized for them, and I think that's why. But they've all got their flaws I suppose. I did shed a manly tear when she cheered FS when she was derping on the runway even though she was incredibly jealous.

Only the manliest of men.

Real men.

Where have you been for the past... holly carp it's almost been a year. (To be fair, I've been resisting the urge to post a bunch about it on pweb; it can get _really_ irritating if you're not into it when it's everywhere.) Have some presentations about it:

http://flashhost.heanet.ie/dotconf/SabrinaDent.html (starts at 2:35)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olLDrvc1qt4

The second one is on the silly side, but it's more recent. It also has a couple of minor errors: I think it's pretty widely agreed that "bronies" comes from bro and pony (not /b/ and pony *glares at satya*), and the extended Equestria Girls video wasn't exclusive to Equestria Daily; it was just released to them in advance of its actual airing.

If we're going to keep talking about it, though, this should probably be split into a separate thread.

Oh, that's where it started. But I found the fandom from /b/. And the /b/ronies (who are just a subset of bronies for whom /b/ is their primary/favorite place to hang out and/or place of origin) feel a kind of obligation to represent. See, MLP has created a huge backlash there. Not only because it represents everything that /b/ isn't - love and tolerance, just having innocent fun and talking with people in an enjoyable atmosphere, etc, but because the rest of /b/ is filled with pretty much the most wretched hive of scum and villainy on the internet. Every other post is racism, gore, malicious humor and every kind of sexual perversion. And amidst it all is us. This has made the resident /b/tards (their word for themselves, not mine), mad as hell. We've gone through what basically amounts to exile at times - wholesale bannings of anyone even posting in one of our threads. Raiding the brony threads is pretty much a pasttime now. Anything about the show used to be a permanently bannable offense, but eventually the mods realized they couldn't stop it. We are now allowed one thread at a time (and if you've never been to /b/, it moves quickly.) And this one thread has to be recreated every few minutes to a half hour, because it is has at least a half a dozen spammers repeatedly posting gore and porn. It's been that way for awhile. It's funny, all that sick, terrible s*** that's not only allowed by encouraged at /b/ normally is perfectly fine by them, yet our one thread, on a single topic, whose posters don't do anything to anyone, is the target of daily, vociferous butthurt. So you can imagine, we feel a kind of kinship with each other. We don't even get mad at the superangry trolls who spend just as much time in our thread as we do - we've converted more than a few to at least neutrality through our peaceful nonviolent resistance. And some who were neutral in the first place have given the show a shot and - surprise, surprise - liked it.

The guy who made this misspelled mutated, but it's still pretty cool. The classic headless suit of /b/'s Anonymous with a twist. I think he was a convert.

-edit, starting our own thread. pweb will never be the same.

Ha!

Sadly, things like that happen more often then you'd hope. Like the number of books that have polar bears and penguins together. Opposite poles, people! Opposite poles!

I don't understand the lyrics to "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

I mean, I understand all the words. I even understand all of the sentences. I do not understand how they go together. One second you and this other person can be awesome together, the next second you're falling apart. The best I've been able to figure is that the singer is planning a murder-suicide for herself and her recent ex-boyfriend.

(The local radios have been playing this song a LOT lately during my commute, so I've taken to pondering it.)

I don't understand why my Latin professor would assume, while ignoring the add/drop your classes time period, that we would all have our books by Friday.

What about the people that ordered books? What about the people who's dad's don't get paid till Friday? C'mon, you were a decently likeable teacher other than that ridiculousness.

One second you and this other person can be awesome together, the next second you're falling apart.

I've always taken it to be a relationship on the decline, not completely over but close to it, and if he gave her a little more perceived effort, he could help turn things around. I don't read anything into it being about how things are or have recently been awesome.
