Thanks Steph! Please keep them coming!

Baby is due on THURSDAY. WHAT EVEN.

No signs of impending labor. Zero. Zip.

Of course, since it's been -60 with windchill here, I might opt to stay snug and warm in utero as well.

This last week plus has been hard, very, very hard emotionally. And physically. Because have I mentioned that I am huge? I am huge.

It is getting difficult to keep my chin up. Pregnancy feels never-ending. I am also still terrified of labor, so there's that, too.

Still. It's time to come OUT, baby. Hurry up.

Ok, baby is officially late now.

Yesterday was my due date and I had an appointment with my midwife. Was gently informed that my days of refusing cervical checks were over, and so: I'm only 1 centimeter dilated and 50% effaced. Baby is hanging out way up high in my ribcage and hasn't dropped at all. My midwife did a membrane sweep just for the hell of it, and advised sex and walking, but more or less launched right into induction talk. I have until Thursday the 16th to go into labor naturally. Appointment scheduled for Friday the 17th, during which I'll have an ultrasound. If the baby looks happy and healthy we can push off an induction until Monday the 20th. If there are fluid issues and/or anything else that indicates the baby isn't benefiting by staying in there, I'm getting induced on Friday the 17th. Damnit.

Held it together ok until we headed to the monitoring room, and then promptly lost my s***. Ceaseless, excessive weeping. David and the nurses all rushed to comfort me, and of course that only made me cry that much harder. Then there were some technical issues with the monitor that gave us all a panic attack, but eventually we discovered the issue was with the monitor itself, not with the baby. Good news, but the added stress did not help anything.

I was such a mess David convinced me to take the day off work. He took a few hours off and we went to our favorite breakfast places and ate a slow, relaxing, absolutely gigantic meal together, which was nice. Then he dropped me off at home and went in to work.

A few hours later I started spotting blood from the membrane sweep, and experiencing cramps. My midwife told me to expect these things, and said it could either be signs of labor starting or....it could be absolutely nothing. Love how precise this is.

Of course I got my hopes up against my better judgement and of course it turned out to be nothing. I'm at work today, and my coworkers are driving me insane with all of their pitying looks and speculations about when I'll deliver. I've engaged in some major retail therapy via online shopping, and am trying my very best just to keep it together, but it is so, so, so hard.

I am beyond petrified of induction. I am mentally prepared to deal with naturally occurring labor, and I've even made peace with a possible c-section, but neglected to really think overly much about induction and I am freaking the hell out about it.

JUST COME OUT, BABY.

That is really okay. The freaking out part is, I think, the beginning of anything we have to make some sort of peace with. Feel it, go through it. It's worth freaking out about. Not because it's not going to be okay, but because it's very different from what you'd wanted and there are things about it that are scary.

I hope that even with the (valid) freaking out, you can remember what you have to hold on to. You trust your midwife and your medical team. You trust David. You can trust yourself to tell your team what will make it better for you (e.g., holding David's hand). You can trust yourself to get through whatever the next two weeks bring. (It is okay to get through them with grumpiness and tears and creative cursing and anxiety.)

Friends with due dates after mine having their babies right on time or even early. Want to throw things. Baby has three days left or else it's induction time. Everything sucks.

Per Facebook: Penelope Mae was born yesterday at 1:27 PM!
7 lbs 18.9 inches.

Can't post pics because my phone hates posting pics to pweb, but oh my gosh, she is BEAUTIFUL. Tons of curly red hair!

My SIL had her baby this morning! Right on her due date. Her water broke at midnight and we got to the hospital half an hour later. By 3am, they let her go home because her and the baby checked out okay and she was only having minor contractions. Over the next two hours, her contractions progressed rapidly (while I slept really soundly...I feel so bad!!). She woke me up at 5am to go back to the hospital and she could barely walk with the pain. We got into the hospital around 5:30am. They barely got her into the bed, had not even gotten an IV in and she said she had to push. There wasn't even a doctor or midwife there in time to catch the baby, so a nurse did. He was born at 5:55am. It was so incredible to be there with her.

Dean Stephen, 6lb 13oz, 19"

The only drawback was that I was suffering from a really bad sinus infection after ten days of living in an apt with a mold issue. I had planned on going to urgent care this morning and ended up going after things settled down at the hospital. I now have antibiotics and hope to feel better soon.

Here is a picture of me and my first nephew:

You can now start placing bets on whether Mommy Brontosaurus will hatch her thesis baby or her baby baby first.
A dinosaur in a grocery store is not a very pleasant thing!
He marches through the checkout aisles and tramples over everything.
He puts his snoot into the fruit;
his tail wipes out displays.
I'll tell you just what I've observed --
A grocery store is not a place for dinosaurs to play.

Oh GOD I cannot wait to no longer be pregnant. I so hear you. Who are these people who apparently enjoy it? (Sorry if that is someone reading this, and I am intensely jealous of your enjoyment.)

Nausea and smell sensitivity, sciatica, back pain, abdominal pain, waddling, boob-growth, SINUSES and the months-long bloody nose, pills here there and everywhere... and that's WITHOUT worrying about pre-eclampsia and all the attendant funtimes.

Yet it may amuse some that Nom seems to regard "tree" as a valid gender. When asked if she wants a girl-baby or a boy-baby, about half the time she will reply with "a tree". I thought this was specifically a baby thing, but last night when asked if her doctor would be a boy or a girl doctor, she answered "tree". I think we're raising a kid with extremely progressive ideas about gender.

Oh I am SO not opening that Pandora's Box. "What Does the Fox Say?" was bad enough, nevermind all the videos of border collies doing tricks I have to sit through.

Anyway, just about 28 weeks now, and still holding steady on my BP. Scan today shows a bog-standard baby, growth-wise. I'll be really anxious these next few weeks, as both pweb and my mat notes for Nom tell me it was around now that the other signs of pre-eclampsia showed up. If I can hold stable even two extra weeks, it will mean a WORLD of difference, not to mention the possibility I might not get it at all.

Sorry to any pwebbers who miss my extended pregnancy-ramblings from last time. I'm having a difficult time talking about this one; it's very different, emotionally, especially right now.

*hugs* Ali. You don't have to apologize for for not talking about your pregnancy. It's still fresh enough in my mind that I knowhow rough it can be. Wishing you well.

I'm trying to type up the birth story for Penny, but it's slow going. I also keep meaning to post pictures here, but there are so many hoops to jump through to make it happen, so instead, we copied other pwebbers and made a Penelope-centric tumblr. If you're aching for a baby fix, you can find one here:

http://penelopemaev.tumblr.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is largely for my out-of-state family (who are DYING at not seeing Penny every second) so there are a LOT of photos, often all taken within the same few moments. Forgive the excess.
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant
