Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone, from snowy Britain.
And remember: it's the one day of the year that it's considered socially unacceptable NOT to eat too much. Make the most of it.

So? What did everyone get for Christmas?!
I got several books: Pathfinder by OSC, The Black Prism by Brent Weeks, and a cookbook I've been wanting. I also got a Sonicare toothbrush (I asked for one), socks, a Borders Gift Card, a bunch of clothing from my aunt, and a $100 Amazon gift card that I just spent on: a Mandoline slicer, handheld grater/zester, magnetic measuring spoons, foldable chopping mats, cookie scoop, cooling racks, pinch bowls, suribachi set, a cooking oil sprayer, and an 8 inch chef's knife.

Pathfinder dominated Pweb households this Christmas.
Let's see, I got:
Pathfinder
3 tubes of Bert's Bees lip balm
certificate to get streaks in my hair
$20 giftcard to Michael's
10 bottles of acrylic paints
1 yard cut of fabric I'd been drooling over
24 pack of 80s Glam Sharpies
set of SW glasses (drinking, not seeing)
Compass for apocalypse
8" hunting knife for apocalypse
Columbia mini-multi-tool thingy with LED light...for apocalypse
$20 gift certificate to a local Mexican restaurant near work
$50 giftcard to JCPenney's, which I used to get a pair of tennis shoes and a black turtleneck (I have some money left over, since I caught the after-Christmas sale, so I can now buy myself a sock)
After Christmas but still gifted: 2 other, slightly used but like new pairs of tennis shoes from Voldemort

Note: I feel mildly uncomfortable posting in here because David's family goes WAY overboard with the gift-giving. No matter how often we tell them that we really don't want or need anything, or try to provide a much smaller, far more modest list for them to shop from...inevitably Christmas morning is overwhelming. I don't know how to deal with it, really; it makes me uncomfortable. That said...
Jointly, David and I received:
-A pressure cooker
-A 6 quart Crock-Pot with a small dip warmer
-5 cook books (most notably CLASSIC INDIAN COOKING by Julie Sahni)
-A set of gorgeous, quirky, stemless Riedel red wine glasses
-Several board games (the best of which being Quoridor!)
I got:
-A gorgeous, gorgeous shawl/scarf/pashmina, which I am obsessed with and have worn pretty much every day since receiving it.
-Smart Wool socks!
-A tub of Origins Ginger Rush body lotion which is AMAZING. I've never heard of Origins before, but in looking them up I am so impressed. The lotion I got is completely paraben/phthalate/SLS/chemical-free and performed miracles on my dry, eczema-tortured skin instantly. Seriously one of my favorite gifts this year.
-Lots and lots of candles
-2 amazingly plush, thick, sooooooooft blankets: a throw for the couch and one for my bed. I am obsessed with blankets.
-A gift certificate to Barnes and Noble
-A gift certificate to Half-Price Books
-An iTunes gift card
-A breath-taking pair of earrings from Ten Thousand Villages (from David)
-A 19 piece Pyrex set with LIDS that includes a pie pan, a loaf pan, and ramekins!!! (also from David)
-A dozen NEW YORK BAGELS from my little sister! She had them shipped to me overnight! Seriously amazing!!!!

you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Wow, I'm amazed that you've never heard of Origins before. I know they have whole stores in NYC. My favorite product of theirs is Peace of Mind which is just sensory relief for when you have a headache or are tense. I hate most smells but I love this one.I've never heard of Origins before, but in looking them up I am so impressed.

I received some lovely scarves and a sweater from my mother-in-law, writing paper and envelopes from my SiL, earrings from my other SiL, and some earphones from my brother. My parents gave us what we asked for (money), to help us get set up in the UK. Brent gave me a classic red cloche, which looks awesome, I do have to say. A friend of ours gave us ornaments, and another friend gave me a bottle of one of my favourite discontinued scents.
It was a lovely Christmas, all around, and far more for the people than any gifts.

Re: Christmas!
*bumped for the season*
I am super excited for Christmas this year, and I think I am legitly going to get all of my family members presents. I need to start contemplating ideas in earnest.
And I'm hoping it's okay that I don't get my soon-to-be-ex sister-in-law a present, because I really would rather not.

Re: Christmas!
I'm dreading the idea of Christmas this year. Hell, I'm dreading the idea of December this year. Every time a Christmas song comes on or I see a commercial about it, I get a tad cranky and walk off grumbling. I don't know where this came from, at least, I won't admit to where this came from.

I am totally excited about Christmas this year. Mostly because it's the first time we've been able to really get our girls presents, and the first year we have a tree.

Re: Christmas!
We got a new tree this year. We're the only losers in our family that have a fake tree, but we're not home enough during the holidays to make a real one worth it.
and since we were talking about tree toppers in the chat the other day, here's a picture of our angel.
Angie's mom made it. It's the same as she had on her tree when she was growing up. She insisted that we have this exact angel or nothing on top of the tree.

Re: Christmas!
I like the angel.
My family has always had a fake Christmas tree, with a pine-scented candle so it seemed more real. We've had the same tree with a lot of the same ornaments (at least the same blue/white color scheme) for as long as I can remember. My mom had to buy a new tree this year because the old one was ruined in the great sewer back-up earlier this year. I'm sure it will still be pretty, but I'm a little sad that it won't be the same tree I have always known. I think (hope) the ornaments were salvageable so there will still be some familiarity...

Re: Christmas!
We're getting out tree next weekend. Going and picking a tree out is really what starts the Christmas holiday for me. Last year we went and cut one down, but most years we go with already cut ones.

Re: Christmas!
Oh sure, way to prove me wrong : P
Actually, I guess I never counted small trees as real Christmas trees for some reason. We have a big real one that goes out in the living room, and then we have a tiny (fits on a small coffee table) tree that usually goes in the family room. I guess I just don't count the small one as our Christmas tree, it's just kinda of a random decoration that I forget about.

We've had a fake tree for a long time now but one of the things I miss most about Christmas was having a real tree and a carpeted living room because vacuuming up the needles that fell off made the house smell great.

Re: Christmas!
I love shopping for Christmas trees, but since I moved to DC I can't fit one in my house. And my mother always gets the tree early in December, so I don't get to be part of it at home, either.
Makes me very sad. Maybe I'll get a pine-scented candle like y'all have to make it smell more Christmassy!

We haven't decorated yet, and I don't know how much we'll be able to put up. We at least have our advent candles up, but no wreath even.
