jeebs is prolly just feeling the difference of glowiness in the text. the sidebar has a bit of a glow where the philotic web logo is flat color on flat color. which is probably more of an effect of the size of text more than anything.
i think it should be the forum and not the forums.
i wish there was a good artist rendering of what the battle school looks like. i think it would look better than earth since very little of the series is on the planet... (no i don't want to count the bean books)

Yeah, I really like the sidebar, but am having trouble making the rest of it "match". I'm trying to keep the content area simple, because then I don't want to make it super complicated.I really like it. The sidebar is really slick, unfortunately it makes the rest look a bit boring now.
Something about the shadowing or the lettering of Philotic Web looks a tiny bit off though.
It might be the slight motion blur effect I have a layer behind the 'philotic web' part that looks off to you. I can remove it -- I'll see how it looks.
I added that because of what I did with the current temp page.Ansible Link Established got a chuckle from me. Pretty fancy-lookin'.
I was trying to think of other things I can add but really can't.
Yes, so do I. I actually spent about fifteen minutes trying to find something that could pass as the battle school to place around the Earth, but wasn't able to. *shrugs*i wish there was a good artist rendering of what the battle school looks like. i think it would look better than earth since very little of the series is on the planet...

It looks good, though I'm a bit worried about margins. Will all of the headers be tall enough that content--which I assume will run closer to the edges--won't bump into earth graphic/get lost in the star field? White text on those bright stars could get ugly.
Also, I think you could do with out the shadows on the bar the navigation links are attached to and the content box. It doesn't seem to work with the semi-transparency.

Shadowless.
I'll just make sure the headers are constrained width wise, and I believe Alea mentioned perhaps placing the rotating quote box on every page. We'll try to avoid content getting lost if we can.

Well, first, you posted a URL not an IMG. I fixed it by going to that URL, right clicking on your image, and then copying the images location and using THAT for the IMG tag.
Second, yes, everyone see's that. We're in the process of redesigning the website and forums and most likely moving to a different (philoticweb.org instead of philoticweb.net) domain. This is so we can once again have a front page with information about Ender's Game.

That's because we don't use HTML in posts, here. We use BBCode.Yah that was an accident but on the bottom it says HTML is OFF

The option is available to admins, but I don't really see advantages to turning it on when bbcode works for anything we need.We possibly would turn it on, if we had admin privileges. But, alas, we have been abandoned by our owner, which is pretty much the main reason we're migrating to a new location.I like html Is it not possible for both codes to be used?

It APPEARS to work in IE 8 (though the form f****** up), Firefox 3.6, and Chrome. And, it's all done in CSS.
This makes me immeasurably happy.

well, sometimes life gets so busy that you can't spend as much time on your favorite websites. or it gets to the point where you don't need to be a part of an online community anymore. in short, life happens. people grow apart. s*** happens. admins come and go. but pweb remains.

There isn't any content yet haha. We need to start discussing content soon, as it'll have to be a group effort to add things.I love it. I take it I'm not meant to be able to see any content yet?
Can the Earth picture maybe be a link back to the homepage?
Yeah, I'll be making the Earth picture a link back to the homepage. There are a few aesthetic changes that need to be made.
Jeez, now you mention something! When I add content, hopefully it won't be as distracting. If everyone deems it too distracting still, I'll reduce the size.Having the Earth be that big is distracting to my eyes. Plus if it is smaller it'll bring the categories higher on the page, which seem too low when firefox is full screen.
Well, it should be resized now anyway, I shouldn't have to scroll down to see all the pages available when firefox is full screen.Jeez, now you mention something! The bottom of the menu is longer than 600px. I actually forgot about netbooks screens. I'll pull my netbook out and tweak until it fits.
ETA: Check your zoom level/font size? Because the bottom of the menu is only maybe 625px down from the top of the screen, which should be fine at 800px down.

Why would I make it fit tiny screens that nobody ever uses? iPads scale everything down logically anyways, so it'll look nice no matter what. I actually went with 960x768 which only 20% of the people use, and it works smaller than that. It would be stupid to shrink everything down so the few people that use such small resolutions are happy. Should I try and make it work for a 320x480 phone screen too?

*nods*, Thanks.
I just checked the page on my netbook (1024x600), and it does cut the bottom of the menu off. Since netbooks are fairly popular now, and that's the most popular netbook resolution, I'll go ahead and shrink the earth and bring the menu up enough such that looking at the website in full screen on a netbook doesn't cut the menu off.

Why not put the menu across the top between the globe and search box instead of down the side? Although horizontal scrolling would be worse than vertical, even the smallest resolutions should be wide enough if you scale it right.
Also - and I think I've mentioned this before - could you capitalize the P and W in Philotic Web in the globe logo? It looks goofy and unprofessional, in my opinion, to have it all lower case, especially since everything else is caps locked.
