Help!

Postby Eaquae Legit » Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:32 pm

Quick! Somebody give me an animal that starts with the letter U.

Non-taxonomic names preferred, must be a real creature ("unicorn") doesn't count, must be an English-use name ("ursa" is Latin, and we use "bear").

Bonus points if you can come up with something for X, too.

Urchin is a good one.

Edit:

In fact: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_some ... etters_A-Z

For X, Xantus's Murrelet or Xantus's Hummingbird work, as does the X-Ray Fish.

I'm not sure what's going on, but if she came to P-Web for help with some kind of quiz or game, I'm pretty sure that's already over the line of honor. I think Marcellus Wallace would have some words of wisdom to share on the matter.

LOL, I can google as well. I was hoping someone could come up with it off the top of their head. I was without computer all day today and it was bugging me that after about 18 hours I still couldn't come up with one.

"Sea urchins" starts with an S.

And really, I came up with an animal for Q, I never thought U would be so hard.

Janus, I work mostly with non-verbal people. I get tired of the sound of my own voice sometimes, and it's no different than trying to figure out where you saw that actor, no, seriously, I swear I've seen him in something else (but can't get at IMDB).

Ursus spelaeus is as non-taxonomic as it gets 8) right the other day i was talking to my buddy about how i had been assaulted by an ursus spelaeus who then proceeded to run away with my lunch.

Honestly, that didn't even occur to me when I posted.

Yesterday I played the same game, only with scientific/mathematical disciplines. I did pretty well, missing F, Q, and V (I think). But I wasn't trying hard, so I'll have to play again sometime.

Quick! Someone advise me on what to listen to on my ipod during my totally f****** terrifying root canal this afternoon!

Music? Audio book?

If I go with music, should it be soft and soothing to relax me, or upbeat and loud to drown out the sound of the drill?

Will an audio book be distracting enough?

Is anyone willing to endure this procedure on my behalf?
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Soft and soothing. Something with more of a beat will probably raise your heart rate, and your brain might interpret that as even MORE anxiety. If you're listening to something upbeat, make it fun and upbeat lyrics, not fast with bass.

Personally, I would be inclined to go with audiobook, though. A really, really interesting one with a complicated plot. That will force you to pay attention to it instead of to what they're doing.
There's another home somewhere,

There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

My thoughts exactly. I would need something interesting/complicated enough to distract me from what is going on. I don't think Music would be enough.

The office had tvs in the ceiling for my last one. It was on CNN and they were talking about the stupid healthcare debate. I switched it to Discovery and tried to focus on Dirty Jobs and How It's Made. Partway through, the assistant asked if I wanted her to change the channel (assuming I wasn't able to change it myself or something). Fortunately Rei was there and was able to say for me "no, it's cool, she's enjoying the science, leave it alone". I was very grateful.

I need a sith name.

Both Vader and Sidious have names that, when an "In" is added to the front, become words. Invader. Insidious. Maul can't say the same (unless inmaul is a word I've never heard of) but he's new canon anyway, so we'll ignore him and extended universe.

I came up with Darth Credible but that's just not very menacing, is it? Help! What are some menacing "in" words?

Darth Validate? Sufferable? Competent? See what I mean?

The name Darth Sidious is as much new canon as Darth Maul. Also, Count Dooku's sith name is Darth Tyrannus, so really the "in" thing only works for Vader and Sidious. Sorry, I can't really turn off the Star Wars geekiness.

And I was totally going to suggest Sufferable before I saw that you already had it. :P

ETA - Or Darth Sane

The name Darth Sidious is as much new canon as Darth Maul.
The name, perhaps, but the character himself is old canon, as is Vader. That trumps new characters, and thus their names, any day.

It took me a day to remember it, but I knew I had a comic strip relevant to this. "Darth Sensitive", hehe.
