(I have no idea how to do accents over the e's when I'm not in Word)
Alt+130

I have no idea on a Mac, however. I only know because of so much Pokémon.
Option + e, vowel

Mmhmm! That is one thing that I particularly like about Macs. The way they deal with diacritics is far more concise and infinitely easier to remember than Windows.

Mac might deal better with diacritics, but they deal a lot worse with critics!

Lately I've been having many many moments where I feel anxious and strongly embarrassed for absolutely no reason. Can't tell if this is normal/general low-level social anxiety, or if I'm building things up in my head and just worrying about nothing. I just felt like writing it down.

Brian is buying me a minivan right now.

I always swore I would never own a minivan. I had to drive one in high school and I HATED it! I never wanted to be one of "those" moms. I wanted to be cooler.

As we were looking at cars, I really wanted the Pilot to be the right car. After looking at it, I just didn't feel like it would give us what we needed. I'm sad to loose the 4wheel drive, but the space and ease of the Sienna just felt like what we needed for a family with 4 kids.

And now I'm a lame mom with a minivan.

I don't think you could ever be lame, no matter what you drove. :kisses:

Aww, I totally understand. A (tiny) part of the reason I don't want three kids is the prospect of getting a van.
You are still cool no matter what!

It's not about the car. It's how you drive it. And you will make that minivan awesome. Embrace it.

Growing up, the cool moms were the ones with the minivans because they were the ones that were able to take everyone to soccer practice and birthday parties. You're already a cool mom so adding a van will only make you that much cooler.

I rather self-consciously call my kid "Nom-nom" on pweb to make it less weird for Nomi to read my posts.

Aww, don't worry about it. I'm getting over the weirdness. It just takes me a minute sometimes to figure out who is being talked about. :)

A certain band that was a huge part of my wanting to move here has reunited, has an album coming out, and is touring soon with a stop in Chicago. I was so bummed when they broke up a few years ago.

I kind of don't care now.

But I really want to.

I hear ya. The Postal Service is touring but the closest they are coming is NYC and I don't think it's worth the trip...but we'll see how much the tickets are.

The Postal Service will be at Sasquatch in a couple of months. I want to see them and a TON of the other bands but a four day pass is about $350 per person (includes camping and parking, but still).

They didn't even sell one day passes last year : (

Confession: I am apartment hunting (way prematurely) and I have realized that I care much more about having a bigger kitchen than a bigger living room. I don't care if I'm a little cramped when I'm snuggling up with a movie. But cooking? I need counters!

I worry all the time that because I'm not shooting for a prestigious job, my classmates and family are going to think that I didn't get the grades, or didn't have the interview skills to get one. Rationally, I know that it would be silly to get myself stuck in a job I know I'd hate, simply because I care what other people will think of me. Still, it's been on my mind a lot lately.

On another note, I just realized I missed my 10 year anniversary here, a couple of months ago

At times like this, I always like to recommend Arthur Brooks' work on earned success and happiness. (Spoiler: money and prestige don't really correlate with happiness. Earning your success -- in whatever institutions of meaning you choose -- through merit and hard work does.)

We all have to define our own meaning of success and earn it. It doesn't matter how you denominate your success. Raising children, saving souls, delivering justice, advocating for a cause, however you define it personally: it all counts.

Which is to say: your rational side is right. More prestige may be alluring, even if only to improve your standing among your peers and family. But it won't necessarily make you happy. Especially if it doesn't meet your personal definition of success.

Last night I discovered that, at least according to wikipedia, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst were good friends. I think I kind of ship them.

I kind of feel bad for stomping around for around an hour and generally causing music noise pollution every day while using the Wii but the upstairs neighbors have a child who I constantly hear crying and stomping around and the downstairs neighbors are constantly playing music quite loudly at random times throughout the day and as late as 2AM.

My confession is I both kind of want my own, single family place (but wish this place could be cut and pasted elsewhere because I still love it) and that I kind of wish there were a way to filter out places before moving in based on neighbors having children or otherwise being the loud sort.

New confession! And a meta confession. I feel kind of like a traitor for not picking the trailer apart and just basking in enjoyment that it did, in fact, come out.

Just wanted you all to know. It's not an end of an era or anything like that, and it won't change my own participation here. So I'm just satisfied it's happening. We'll finally know: is such a thing even possible?
