Was there a reason you memorized the nato phonetic alphabet? And I just had to look up what that even was. And when I did, it reminded me of Dollhouse.

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I know the nato phonetic alphabet, too. Not sure when or why I learned it, but I've known it for years. I use it on the phone at work all the time, and people are always surprised that a "sweet-sounding gal" like me (direct quote from a vendor) knows enough to say "delta" and "charlie" instead of "dog" and "cat."

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
Just that it's useful. If you pick random words to spell things out orally you might pick something ambiguous (from Archer: "M as in Mancy"). And it gives a slight hint on what to listen for, if you hear something else spell using the same system.
Also, it sounds cooler.

I don't use the search function nearly as often as it would be useful to do.
I got so used to knowing the general area of where to look for things that I still tend to use Ctrl F and go through the pages when I want a thread that fell off the first page.

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I didn't want to interrupt the gun love talk and this is not meant as a judgmental post at ALL, so please don't take it that way.
I have never fired a gun, even though I have been given the opportunity. I was raised in a very anti-gun household. My mom didn't even let us have water guns because it was too much like playing with guns. I have no problem with people who hunt for meat and use guns for this purpose. I just personally don't want to shoot a gun or have anything to do with them. My husband feels differently than I do and when we were at a friends house, who does hunt, he went out with everyone else and shot at targets. This is one good reason that we aren't having kids. I wouldn't want them to have a BB gun and he would.

Everything I was to post is either a) sarcastic, b) vitriolic, or c) distressed. And really, ultimately, useless. So I am just not going to post anything. Which sucks. And is so frustrating.

I kinda like it when drama flares up on pweb. It's like watching a soap-opera.

See, I can see how soap operas or reality tv or whatever can be entertaining if you aren't personally, emotionally connected to the characters involved. But since I am, I do not find this fun.

Confession: I'm kind of scared to hit 1000 posts. I am not ready for all the epicness that such a post entails.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

Change that to 5000 and I feel the same way. If I disappear again here soon, it will be because I don't know what to do with such a post. That is, unless I make it without realizing it. I can just as easily see that happening, too.
I'm excited for you, though. Whether or not you do anything special with it, I'm so glad you're making it there. :)

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I stumbled across my brother's account on the local newspaper's website tonight (he commented on an article I read and I recognized the name). I've spent past hour reading his posting history and while I don't agree with everything he's said, I have to say I'm quite proud of him for wading into the vitriolic comment fields of a site that's only slightly better than YouTube and providing calm, rational replies to the ignorant know-it-alls.

I am spending all day glued to my computer trying to win Audubon's Birding the Net online game. Today is the final day and the prizes are really good!

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
Confession: Jan's post reminded me; I hate almost all the children's music that has crossed my path over the past few years.Raffi. Good kids music, seriously head-sticky.
That, combined with my discomfort for certain programming, like babytime, is further proof that I should work with tweens and teens, not the younger crowd, and if the position in my district wasn't auto-paired with Spanish Outreach, that's the job I would have taken (it was offered) when I started two and a half years ago. Being generally good with the younger ones does not make it a good career match, even if Youth Services does have the better craft supply closet.

This should probably go in the Enderverse board, but admitting this feels more like a confession to me.
Confession 1: Since I couldn't get the Ender comics last night, I checked out War of the Gifts.
Confession 2: I read War of the Gifts in one sitting.
Confession 3: It wasn't as utterly horrible as I thought it would be. Extremely fan fictiony, but tolerably so.
Confession 4: I don't know how I should feel about this.

I have been watching "The Best of The Joy of Painting" and am developing a deep and abiding love for Bob Ross. His mellowness is like balm to my soul.

I love watching Bob Ross. I didn't know he was dead until a couple of years ago when I mentioned to my brother in-law that I would like to meet him one day.

Bob Ross is the best. I love his happy little trees.
I remember one painting he did with a rock in it, and the rock was lonely so he gave it a happy little bush to keep it company It made me happy

I'm watching Masterchef, and it's making me wish I enjoyed seafood. Some of the dishes look delicious, even if they're fishy. I could never be a proper chef, since I wouldn't be very good with seafood.

I am dying to see the new Twilight movie.
They're just as bad as the books (I read all of them) and I kind of love them for that. This one also has the sex scene in it that has been made a big-ish deal, so I'm curious to see how that turned out.

C'mon, Alex. You can admit you've seen it and know it was offscreen.
All the same, I want to see what's there. Some of the best sex scenes I've seen didn't get too graphic; it's all about sparking the imagination.
