Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I do too! Hairy feet twins! Actually, I went to the dr yesterday about numbness in my toes and there was a nurse student and he made some comment about the hair on my toes (in relation to there not being any concern about compromised blood flow to the toes). I only shave the big toe and top of my foot during sandal season. And yeah, not huge amounts of hair but visible if you look closely.

Confession: I have not successfully gotten out of bed before 7:30 all week. Consequently, I have not showed up on time for my 8am class all week either.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

Seriously. Having a pweb pregnancy buddy - and then baby buddy - was and is one of the most helpful things EVER.

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I have hairy feet and a hairy big toe. I shave them whenever I shave my legs. I refuse to hide them in shoes, though, because I'm a barefoot sort of girl.I have what my family lovingly calls Hobbitses feet.
No, not little-people feet. Hairy feet. On my toes and on the top of my foot itself. Not massive, werewolf amounts but just enough and of course dark enough to be seen if I don't shave them.
I have avoided being barefoot around others since I first became aware I was weird because of it. That was 4th grade.
It will be a personal triumph no one can understand that I'm even posting this.
On the other topic, I never get a pweb pregnancy buddy.

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I really love this ridiculous hidden-wedge sneakers trend. I saw a pair at topshop I really really really wanted, and now I've been thinking about them for weeks. I don't need and can't really afford another pair right now, and I doubt this is a trend that will stick around for years to come. But I keep looking around for deals online on similar pairs. DSW is the cheapest I've found and there are only 2 left now in my size.
/sigh. They're sitting in my cart online now. I will stress over whether or not to get these for at least another week, and then there won't be any left and I'll regret it.

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
A Google search gives a lot of different possibilities. It's funny that it seems they started as actually being really sneaky, but then the designs are now starting to be concave on the back to highlight that they're actually wedges. Interesting stuff!

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I honestly can't get over how clever they are. If someone was wearing them, at least the more subtle ones, I would have no idea at all that they were secretly a few inches shorter. But then, I've given up on understanding shoe fashion ever since this whole "wear really thick socks that are ugly and extremely visible so that you can bear to wear uncomfortable but fashionable boots" fashion became so in, so I just appreciate ingenuity and cleverness. They look remarkably casual!

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I gave up on shoe fashion well before that trend...that I didn't know was a trend, so I'm just assuming I gave up before then.
My feet are made to get me from A to B and wearing anything that harms them or me in the process is not an option, fashion be damned. More power to people, but especially their feet, for trying to make this other stuff work out.

This was also my first reaction. I think it's because they're pretty much the opposite of what I want in a shoe. I want the cute look of a wedge, but the comfort of a flat.Claire, no offense meant, but I think those look awkward and silly.
Speaking of shoes, I just bought a pair of snow boots and i'm kind of freaking out because I have never spent that much on a pair of shoes! This will also be the first snow boots i've had since I was 14 or so, so i'm pretty excited to not have wet feet come winter!

Why thank you! And just do keep this on topic:
Confession:
I have a lot of anxiety over spending money. Any "big" purchases will have me stressing for day/weeks.

Same. Though, for smaller things for me, too. I keep wanting to get yogurt but that's on my mental "Not Allowed" list if it's over 50 cents a container, which Yoplait almost always is. It just seems like I'm being wasteful with my money if I get those all the time.

I do the same thing with my yogurt! I only buy Tillamook and right now it's around 80 cents a container. But soon...

Haha! I'm not offended at all, we don't all need to have the same taste! But they just look like sneakers to me (as in, something I would wear to class or to the bar)-- sneakers that would give me extra height, which is a huge plus in my book. I haven't bought them yet though.Claire, no offense meant, but I think those look awkward and silly.

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I'm a little surprised I don't like them, actually; they're very retro, 80s high-top sneakers.
Also, confession: I'm going to look at a two bedroom apartment on Saturday. I still have 4 months left on this lease and I can't afford to carry two rents at the same time. But, on paper, it's everything I want (outside of being able to afford living downtown, that is). Within 1.5 miles of the train, so no difference for me there. BUT, it's also 2 miles away from the El...so, a way to get to and from the airport that wouldn't make me rely on buses, Metra, or cabs. 1.5 miles from the movie theater(!) and thus, the mall (eh). Same distance from a grocery store I am now - 1.5 miles. Dishwasher? Check. Laundry in-unit? Check. No pink bath tub? Check! Central air? CHECK.
I want this. At least, so far.
I'm having a hard time convincing myself it is stupid to even bother looking.
Still going Saturday morning.

It's just not smart, monetarily, to go for it. Both of us would be carrying two rents, me for 4 months and him for...eight, I think. If he paid for all this, well, that would be an issue for me and I don't know that I trust the whole idea of subletting.

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
At most complexes around here, you can usually pay a "break-lease" penalty, which is normally around 1-month's rent. We've done it before, since it was cheaper than paying the 4 months worth of rent when we didn't need the apartment.
I guess that's not a thing everywhere?

Re: Confessions of a 20-something mother
I don't see anything in my lease that addresses a contract breaking in that manner (which is weird, since all my phone contracts have that written in ). It simply says if I decide to sublet the place, I need to pay a month's rent, give 60 days notice, and have approval of the landlord. Which would put me right back at having to pay for 3 months, because I'm assuming the month's rent I'd have to pay wouldn't be part of the 60 days notice time period. I could be wrong, though.
