Doesn't it feel good? It really is a nice achievement.

Here is where my ignorance of the board's history while I was missing comes into play. What happened with Eriador and why is it such a big deal to pass him?

He was, basically, a really, really annoying kid who eventually got banned. He posted a hell of a lot in just the few months that he was here, and it took YEARS for the rest of us to come close to catching up with/surpassing his ridiculously long post count.

I was around a little during his reign, but I didn't remember him as annoying or prolific, so yeah, that shows just how much I missed while I was gone. even when I was here.

I remember him.

I don't think it's a big deal to pass him or anyone else.

But then, I don't attach much significance to post count.

It's been a while since we've passed around drinks in here.

And I just remembered that I'm supposed to be the bouncer in this club.

To be fair, I think using join date as a bragging point is equally as dismissible as post count. It's what you do with your time on the board that makes either mean anything.

I've never been a whore for my post count or anything, but I just looked at the member list and it makes me a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle sad that I've dropped to the #10 spot, after three or so solid years at #5 and then at #7 and #8. I know that I could just post more, but I already feel like I am posting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than I have in the last year or so and don't see how I could up it without being obnoxious (which I have no desire to do).

(Not that I don't absolutely agree. However, I will feel totally braggy about finally beating down that little puppy. I really don't care at all about my post count relative to anyone else's, though.)

To be honest, my real reaction (ETA: to other posts above, not to Kirsten) wasn't as...diplomatic? To expand, I'm not into high post counts for the sake of it but I do think that the people who are really invested in the community tend to have the post count to back them up.

That is, post count can be meaningless but in the majority of cases here, they're highest for the people who have put down roots and made meaningful connections. So, to me, post counts carry quite a bit of weight.

To be proud of beating someone who just wanted to "hear" himself speak, well, I think that's not only okay but something I can really appreciate.

Pfft! We're talking about EL and Rei's baby here. He/she will probably be born fully literate in English and Latin.

Any word on her lingual skills, yet, btw? Or does she sometimes mispronounce her Latin because she didn't get to finish baking?

No -- I was going back and reading some of the oldest threads today. His posts are still there to remind me why he was annoying.

with the new software it's possible to delete the user and leave the posts, or delete the posts and leave the user. So I think that's what's happened here.

His account is still there. He's just inactive, so it doesn't pop up on the memberlist.

I'm guessing "inactive" is a side effect of being banned on phpBB3 since I can't find anything concerning eriador in our shiny new admin log.
