Objection, Your Honor! That's something that the JURY should decide for itself!!!"Law & Order" has officially been thrown out of court and canceled, NBC confirmed Friday, according to The New York Times.
Previously NBC executives had signaled that they might keep "Law & Order" on air at least one more season to allow creator Dick Wolf's series to surpass "Gunsmoke" as the longest running prime-time drama in TV history. In spite of reports that the series was canceled Thursday, negotiations were ongoing late into the night, The Times reported.
I guess there's still hope - I mean, they are still negotiating. I guess it's a budget thing, but still. TV's second longest series in history (and it's best, in my opinion), still has combined (new and rerun) ratings that are more than adequate compared to the rest of the tripe they put on TV. I mean, it's still got two spin-offs running - and a third on the way.
NBC, while not the only boneheaded network out there, is making a huge mistake. As one commenter put it, why cancel what next year would be 'the longest running drama in TV history'? Even just to let it get to that point before cancellation, you know?
