Typing

How fast do you type? I used to be able to do 90+ but I'm at about 80 now. I ask because I don't use the "proper" technique they teach but I'm decent at it. The job I'm looking into requires at least 40 and people still somehow fail to meet that basic requirement. I'm wondering what speed other people and if you use "proper" technique or not.

I had to pass a 40wpm test about 4 years ago and I just barely passed, so clearly I've improved. yay.

93 wpm with 98% accuracy, so adjusted 92 wpm. I've improved since I took the test last year from this same site.

Typing about astronauts is fun, though. Last time I did Aesop's fables. Maybe that one was more difficult?

62 wpm. I correct all my typos by habit, which slows me down, but I hate mistakes. =]

eta: 70 wpm with Aesop's.

87 wpm, 100% accuracy, 87 wpm adjusted.

Note: I made at least two mistakes when taking the test, but immediately corrected them before moving on. I'm not sure how much of an effect that had (or whether it slowed me down significantly or not).

*sigh* You people did so much better than I did. I've never been the best typer, but I was just about average at 40 WPM and 98% accuracy.

[Edit]

Ooh, I took it again, and got a 43 WPM and 100% accuracy. At least it's progress.

I got 78wpm with 94% accuracy; 73wpm adjusted. It's nice to see that I'm not just imagining I can type 60wpm when applying for jobs where that is a requirement.

Secretary? I know some office jobs do, so they can see how fast you can work.

Receptionist jobs as well as assistant administration positions both will often have a typing requirement.

When I was being hired to do AT&T customer service they had a typing speed requirement, but, considering my "abysmal" speed at the test as a measly 76 wpm, and they were so impressed they were telling each other it, I doubt that the job had a very high standard. :)
