Do your mirrors ever tell you you're the fairest one of all? Sometimes mirrors lie.

Nope, they never do.
I don't think they're lying though, because its multiple mirrors with different lightings. They all can't be lying!

+ A big firm set up an interview with me tomorrow.
- They only gave me 48 hours notice, so I've been rushing to get all of my Thursday stuff done, which meant working super late.
+ They have offices in two places I wouldn't mind living.
- They're also interviewing people from some top tier schools and people who summered for them.

+ All but one article is ready for print.
- Referee sent last minute feedback on article and it needs serious work in one small area.
+ I should be done with it next week.
- I'll be cutting it super close getting it ready for print.

+ My new staff is looking good.
+ My old staff isn't grumbling too much about the new changes, yet.

+ I've heard back from all potential references and all are happy to help.
- I've got a lot more job searching to do.

+ My summer article is looking good.
- It's not done, yet.
- It should have been done August 6th.
- I need to start looking for its permanent home.

+ I may have the privilege to choose between 2 very prestigious programs for my next step
- One of them requires much physical prowess, and the other requires a lot of time
- I'll have to choose between them (I'm somewhat indecisive)

+ Car loan approved!

- Car is a repo, and so they can't actually give it to us until they contact the other owner, which probably won't be till Monday. So no zippy little car to drive around in. Boo.

+ A random professor I've never met has agreed to come in on my defense committee at the last minute!

- Crap. I really do have to make those stupid little baby changes and actually send it all to my committee this week. And try to get a date.

+ In one week of madness, I will manage to get drunk, wear a penis necklace, get several lovely presents, become a Ph.D., spend a night playing board games with old friends, have my eyebrows waxed and hair done up, put on the loveliest dress I have ever owned, and get married. And, who knows? The next week I might go to Vegas.

La vie, c'est belle.

Thumbs up: Second job finally called me & we're almost set to start.
Thumbs down: It is very few hours.
Thumbs up: Third job interviews set tomorrow.
Thumbs down: Tomorrow, I have to go all over the county. All over. And pick up my friend from the airport & not make him feel unwanted while I do work/class things.
Thumbs up: Friend visiting!
Thumbs up: Planning long weekend trips!! And none of them will be that expensive.
Thumbs down: It is nearly 1 and I haven't done anything on my list and now I only have an hour to do it.

Thumbs up: I'm adopting two cats, in all likelihood, from a good friend's brother. He and his wife are having a kid, and they figure it's a good idea to clear the house beforehand (or something like that). So yay! Free cats, complete with all of their stuff.

Thumbs down: I have a few misgivings, like there being no backing out, and the fact that my apartment is absolutely tiny, and the fact that I don't have super-steady income. At least I somewhat know their previous owners, so I can trust that their shots and everything are up-to-date and don't have to worry about vet bills yet, but that's on the horizon, now.

I'm nervous!

Thumbs up: I had a nice time chatting with my neighbor while taking a break from cleaning my oven!

Thumbs up: She's going to pick up Tyler from school on some days so I don't have to wake the others up from their naps!

Thumbs down: All that chatting meant that I missed Glee. And my computer isn't healthy enough to watch it online tomorrow. :(

Thumbs Down: I'm exhausted. Drained. Ready for sleep, basically, and it's only 8:25.

Thumbs Up: I had a very productive day and am quite proud of myself. I finished installing some shelves in my department (if this sounds at all impressive, it's less impressive than it sounds) and shifted many carts' worth of books, which should make weeding easier as I continue that. I made my bank run (picking up money, not robbing it); I haven't had an ATM card since 2001 and hate traveling without cash. I picked up my tickets for Thursday. Clothes are all packed, just waiting on things I need up until I leave.

Thumbs Down: I still have another late start day this week, only I actually have to be there 30 minutes earlier than normal. Naturally, the day I'm at work for the longest this week is the day I'm starting my traveling.

Thumbs Up: It looked like I killed my new MP3 player yesterday but it's back up and running again and I have my theme song picked out. I might be the only freak who picks theme songs or whatever for trips but I have one and this makes me happy.

Thumbs one way or the other: Today went by entirely too fast.

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, Chuck Edition

Thumbs up: This is a great show!
Thumbs up: Hahaha, it's Adam Baldwin!
Thumbs up: Holy crap, season two is only getting better!
Thumbs up: Chevy Chase what the heck! And Scott Bakula!
Thumbs up: This is one of the most satisfying season finales I've ever seen.
Thumbs down: Season three.

I never realized so much character development and established traits could be thrown away with a ten-minute semi-cliffhanger and a five minute season opening.

Thumbs up: Finally finished that animation that will, on Friday, be played through the lights of the ten-story dorm that I lived in four years ago. There will be loud music. It will rock.
Thumbs down: That took me twelve hours to animate. By hand. Frame-by-frame. For less than four minutes.

Someone had better tape it so I can see if it looks any good.

Thumbs up: I finally got the guts to talk to my professor about researching with him and he sent me all the info on the application process.
Thumbs down: His application process is more like 8 weeks of intense tryouts, including making presentations on current research articles and doing all sorts of other things I don't know if I can do.
Thumbs up: His lab is really really awesome.

Thumbs down: Having someone yelling at me at work with their nose half an inch from mine.

Thumbs up: Holding my ground, not raising my voice, and not giving an inch while he continued to be mad about things (up to and including me continually and calmly calling him sir) until he finally left.

Thumbs up: My legs waiting until I was out of sight to go wibbly.

Thumbs Up: Holiday next week means I get out of having to work a night. I very much deserve it and I won't feel (too) guilty that none of my coworkers who deserve to get out of a night.

Thumbs Down: I don't know if I'll make it to next week. I had to do opening all by myself and then follow that with 5 hours on Circ. It was split into two sessions but it's hard dealing with people for that long, especially now that the snowbirds are back.

Thumbs Down: The snowbirds. I hope every year that they'll send us their money from Canada/WA/MN/etc. and stay home but they always insist on coming here to spend it themselves. Congested streets, stores are always packed.

Thumbs Up: I don't drive or shop, so this mostly doesn't affect me.

Thumbs Up: Coworker will be back on the 16th. I might kiss her when I see her.

Thumbs Up: Little brother will be here next weekend for 4 days.

Thumbs Up: Scott Pilgrim will be out in time for his visit.

Thumbs Down: We've started talking about holiday plans. I'm not ready to discuss these. My mom commented on how sad she was about us losing gatherings and the family stuff but I told her the only thing we've ever done consistently during a holiday gathering was fight, and almost always physically at that. I am a-okay with us losing our traditional holidays and having it be toned down to just her, my little brother, and me.

Thumbs Up: I do enjoy decorating for Christmas, so if that sneaks up on me, it won't be so bad. So whimsical and pretty. Good times.

Thumbs Down: I'm just barely winding down from work. That's crap timing, since I have to be asleep very soon. I got nothing done tonight.

Good for you! How did you do it? I am not good at staying calm when someone is mad at me - I either burst into tears or start yelling back. Also I don't stay calm when I get mad at someone else. Something I'm working on!

I can only yell back if it's family. Anyone else, I'll probably silently walk off unless it's a work situation; if it's at work, I can maintain composure but I usually do so by starting to check out. In either situation outside of work, it's always followed by tears but I tend to be good about not letting anyone see me cry.

I do not handle anger directed at me well at all, deserved or not. Especially being actually yelled at versus being spoken to angrily.
