I saw it today. It was really good. They changed some of the plot, but it didn't disappoint. The book is really good too, but I don't think there is any big reason for why you should read it first. You should read it though.

its science fiction
I wouldn't classify it as such. Fantasy, definitely, but SciFi? I don't think so. Even so, not all SciFi is created equally.

To answer your question: I've just seen it and I would have to say, if you want the better story, skip the movie and read the book.

And knowing a little background on the gods wouldn't hurt. They have some interesting stories about them.

I like posting in the battle room the most but oddly enough the majority of my posts don't end up in there.

I'm moving this over to Milagre, since it's just a discussion on one movie.
I know it can be a bit confusing, but this section is for specific movie-club movies.

I decided not to because I'm extreamly picky about movies about my books. My reasons were that Grover isn't supposed to be African American and Annabeth is supposed to have blond hair.

That's true, but the Annabeth in the movie wasn't too bad. Grover...yeah he changed. But at least he was there.

I suggest seeing movies before reading the books, in general. Or probably worded better, I suggest seeing/reading what came out last and then going back to the beginning. I really like movies in general and they usually don't do books justice.

I really, really enjoyed this movie--it was good at making me smile--even though I haven't read the books. It makes me want to read the books, though. My English teacher told me it wasn't good and she was disappointed, which is why I try to avoid watching movies after reading books. But when I have read the book before the movie, I try to approach the movie with the idea that it's just another version, and not intended to exactly imitate the book. When I'm able to think of it that way, I almost always enjoy the movie. And also, I feel cool when I know what's about to happen and other people around me don't know, like Harry Potter 6 when he's reaching to get water from the lake... Everyone knew something was going to happen. But not everyone knew what was going to happen!

It worries me that people can become so angry over book/movie delineations. I think it's good to just enjoy entertainment when you can!

If you read a good book first then seeing the movie generly disappoints. I guess I'm trying to say is that I see your point

You know, that does make sense. Your expectations aren't so high when your going back to the book, are they? I just think the books are usually better. And they usually make the movie after I've read the book...Oh jeez.
