Dear Body,

I'm sorry I slammed all four fingers on your right hand in the car door. Believe me, I really know how much it hurt.

So sorry,

Dear Body,

Please, don't do this. I cannot afford a migraine right now. I can't afford the day of debilitating pain followed by the day of anxiety. Please please please.

Dear right nostril.

Stop bleeding! Jeez, every day it's a nose bleed! I'm also worried you're gonna get blood all over my EG stuff!

Are you in a dry building/area? If so, that may be affecting your nosebleeds. I find a tiny bit of vaseline applied inside my nose (generally with a q-tip) does wonders.

Note: I am not a medical professional, this is just anecdotal.

It happens when I'm in the shower, and when I go to bed lately. I know it's cold outside, but we got two humidifiers... are you telling me I need to buy 10 more humidifiers?

Dear Body,

It's okay.

It's okay to say "Hey, this is me." It's okay if that's offensive. Let's face it, I'm offensive. It's okay if they laugh, with or at. It's okay that you're not who you want to be yet. Nobody is. Nobody expects you to be. You're not what you think you are, and nobody else thinks that.

It's okay to not be what's expected of you.

It's okay to be who you are.

Dear Body,

I'm really, really sorry. I'm sorry I didn't cut your fingernails before one got ripped off and jammed by a stray basketball. I'm sorry I accidentally pierced another finger with a sharp mechanical pencil. I'm sorry I ate a shrimp contaminated catfish which your immune system seems to dislike. I'm sorry you ended up in the hospital with the weird sticker things attached to you and an oxygen mask over your face. I'm sorry you had a headache for the past three days. I'm sorry you had a stomachache for the last three days. And, I'm sorry I haven't taken a single ibuprofen to help you feel better in the past three days.

Girl, I am WAY to tough on you sometimes.

*sheepish* :(

Sorry...

Just don't go too far overboard.

Dear body,

I hate breaking out just because I wear a lot of make-up for the play. Skin, when will you clear up for good?

Dear body,

Need you get ill every time I get a day off from work? At least you're being consistent enough to let me take a sick day. I only HAVE a few more weeks at this job, though, so that's some funny timing.

Dear Body,

We are doing really well lately. Thanks for still being a team player, even when I spend long selfish stretches thinking about the emotional and mental me and not so much you.

I'm glad we picked up yoga again. You feel so much better afterward! Why is it so hard for me to remember that wonderful, relaxed, refreshing feeling? Our quick morning practice is only 20 minutes long, and it's more than worth it given how great it makes us feel. Please help me to remember that the next time I get lazy and just want to skip it.

I'm sorry that I'm still skittish about getting back into a legitimate exercise routine. I'm going to take the plunge, I swear. I'm excited! But also apprehensive.

It's so awesome that we've been focused on eating really healthy, well-balanced food coming from organic, local, and sustainable sources. We both feel really good about that!

I guess I also owe you a really big THANKS for dealing with all the changes as well as you have, particularly at the beginning of last week when you were PMSing. We handled that really well, body!

And, I won't lie; I am super, super proud of us for the four pounds we've lost since starting this journey seriously together. It's not the first time we've tried to lose weight in recent years, but it's definitely the first time we've been patient, fully informed, willing to work hard, surrounded by a great support system, and really focused on doing everything with intention and health in mind. I'm more proud of these four pounds we lost and the way we lost them, then I have been of any greater amount of weight we lost due to depression and contributing factors.

We are kicking ass, body!

Love,
Kel

Dear Body,

if you don't shape up, I'm going to start glucose testing you an hour after every meal to figure out what particular foods you hate so much that you keep adding weight.

Also, you're going to go to the gym, you looked really fat in that video.

Body...

Ah, don't blame yourself, blame me. I'm sorry I tried working you so hard Thursday. I'm sure everyone could see you weren't up to the game... They understand... Of course, I would be so quick to say that if we had lost :P

I see you're looking better since Monday. You actually got out and sledded (Sledded? Sled? Slid?) the hill a bunch of times. :D Just keep taking the pills, and doing a bit of exercise, and you'll be back to normal in no time.

Dear Body,

Yoga was a great idea we had. We shall do this together every night before bed, because it makes us feel wonderful! Plus, we're not that flexible. We shall become pretzels together.

Though, I would appreciate if you let our left achilles tendon heel up so that I can go back to regular wind sprints instead of just light jogging. I know I've been pushing you hard for the last year, but you and I both know we're benefiting from it. I have faith in you.

Love,
Your Consciousness

Dear Body,

I'm doing my best to have body and brain working in sync. Forgive me -- I'll talk to the doc about this increase in heartbeat and we'll take care of it. But the brain is ON. Which is nice.

Just wanted to let you know,

Me

Dear Teeth and Mouth in general,

Good job! You got us the equivalent of a dental gold star foil sticker.

Dear Nose,

Thank you so much for ceasing to drip. The desire to shove a wadded up piece of tissue into each nostril while at work was a bit hard to overcome but I made it.

Dear Stomach,
Sorry I am continuing to gorge you with delicious cheese biscuits and cake.

Dear Belly,
I know, I know, I'm trying to get you back to normal size! Hundreds of sit ups can only do so much.

Dear Nose,
I know you have been acting up all week since I can't use antihistamines before my allergy test. It's today, so, tomorrow will be better.

Dear Teeth,
Looking good. Just gotta get that one to come down and align with the rest... You better work, little chain attached to it, or else I'll be stuck with and implant!

Dear My Body as a Whole,
I promise I'll get out to exercise once all the snow goes away! I promise!

Dear Eyes,

I am sorry about continuing to use these contacts for so long. We will have new ones by the end of the month, I promise. Just hang in there with me, okay?

Also, I don't think I ever formally apologized before for the corneal ulcer. I know it was a year and a half ago, but I still feel like I should apologize since we're having this talk. I am very, very, very sorry that I did not care for my contacts as I should have. Kept them way too long, slept with them in way too many nights. Ignored all the warnings you were trying to give me. I am sorry for that. Oh, man, I am SORRY. Thank you for healing so fast and for not scarring at a place where my vision was affected. I hope you're at least a little proud that I've almost never slept with my contacts in since then (and never for more than one night. And I'm theoretically supposed to be able to do that.)

Dear Body,

I'm proud of you. I know I asked a lot of you this week what with the sprained ankle and abstaining from the tasty treats that were brought in to work, but you came through it like a trooper; when you hit that game winning 3 today I was all like, "SHOOP DA WHOOP!" You're getting better and I wanted you to know that I noticed.

Sincerely,
Me.
