I haven't really had a typical day in a while. I'm technically a uni student but my university for what I can only assume to be some kind of "must have this many weeks in academic year" purpose has three weeks trailing the end of exams in which almost nothing academic occurs. So we decided to use the time to make a film. This has been exhasting but the most fun I've had in ages. This is my day the other day.
I have to rise before dawn, for it is I that starts the sun. I'm not really sure what that expression is.
This is the view out my window. Ordinarily I'd be worried about people tracking down my exact position using this photo, but I'm out forever on Friday so hurry stalkers.
The space where breakfast was.
The walls of my tiny abode are covered by the pictures from my exciting adventures.
The computers: Feynman and Babbage. Babbage is a laptop I got free for uni work that handles the day-to-day stuff, while Feynman (huge tower lurking out of shot) is my editing beast. Back home I've accumulated a crazy amount of would-be-scrapped monitors that make it very scary. And cool.
The camera and lovely colour-coded script.
The kit bags for today.
Walking anywhere in this town can get ridiculously picturesque.
Up we go, to a location which I was told had an amazing view.
And I wasn't lied to.
After a fun day filming whatever it was we were filming up there...
...our afternoon shoot was called off for fear of weather and we went for tea instead.
---
Then I went home and apparently stopped taking photos. But instead I can share a prop I made I'm quite proud of.
This came out exactly as I wanted it whilst being quite durable. Which is good because we're not kind to it.
I might do this again when I either have a typical work day or get back into my studenty library rhythm.

I love that your computers have names. I'm all about giving things names. Our old computer is Agatha (old lady name), our ancient laptop is Ernest (old man name), our new laptops is Wally (as in, Wally West aka The Flash - because it's flashy) and our Nintendo DS is Ray (after Ray Palmer aka The Atom, because it's tiny).
One Duck to rule them all.

I've forgotten why it started but the computer naming is a family thing, we tend to name computers after mathematicians and scientists. There was a brief period where we had a Schrodinger on the network but no one could spell it consistently enough to get at it's networked drives.

I like to name all of my electronics after various mythological characters of mischief. I've had Pan, Puck, Kokopelli, Coyote, Dionysus (okay, god of wine, but close enough), and I'm desperately trying to avoid naming anything Loki because when I bought my Wii it was already named that, and that threw me completely off.
On another note, I'm so very, very jealous of the picturesque town. Like, you don't know.

A picture of the Space Needle : ) I'll be there tomorrow and i'll probably think "Alex was here at some point".
My laptop's name is Toby because he's a Toshiba. Will's laptop is Shiba because it's also a Toshiba and if it's around me long enough, it's going to end up with a name (or not, we still have a kitty we call kitty).

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

I've taken to naming my electronics after Peanuts characters, as of late. I have Linus the thumb drive, Lucy the pocket hard drive and Charlie Brown the iPod Touch, at the moment.
The computer remains nameless until I manage to patch together a partition that lives longer than a few weeks. For now it's just HD, most appropriately lengthened to Hopeless Despair.

My first computer was named Ansible, and, when I tried using a voice command system to tell it what to do, I programmed it to recognize "Jane" as the notification that I was about to tell it something.
Of course, the novelty wears off quickly when it isn't an AI, but a poor voice command system
