Holy carp is it windy! Today and yesterday have been like Winnie the Pooh's blustery day!

Our bed is pushed up against what used to be a fireplace, but the university boarded it over at some point. Unfortunately, they left a vent. And unfortunately, they don't seem to have closed it up at the top of the chimney. All last night it sounded like one long, low rumble of thunder that just kept going and going.

You should unboard your fireplace and have Dick Van Dyke clean it.

But then I would have to punch him for that horrible accent, and I'd feel a little bad punching Dick Van Dyke.

These past couple of days have been, while not cold, sufficiently cool and damp enough for me to feel freezing all the time unless I'm ridiculously over-dressed.

We had an ice storm Sunday night into Monday. Not quite as bad as the one in December 2008 but our power was out for about 15 hours. I took Pheeny over to my mom's house since our place got down to 45*. My brother and I had some fun trivial pursuit games, as we are wont to do whenever we get together.

I wouldn't say "blizzard", but it was one of the heavier snowfalls of the last few months. Snowfall totals ranged from 10 to 25 cm throughout the GTA, I believe. Unfortunately schools were not closed in most areas because it mainly happened during the day rather than overnight. Although it was already bad enough at 7am to make the morning commute quite slow and accident prone.

What a nice way to usher in the first week of Spring!

Sorry Jan, all I can do is cackle evilly. I'd always assumed that the Maritimes spent the entire winter (read: September to May) under ridiculous amounts of snow.

Argh, heat. I love it but it will always require some time to acclimate, even for desert rats such as myself. It is supposed to be 101 tomorrow, so let's give a big round of applause for the First Triple Digit Day of the year.

I also really need to get some razors so I can shave my Abominable Snow(wo)man legs because shorts while riding my bike are quickly becoming a necessity; only you can prevent heat stroke.

We got snow too. Although, at least it was only 1-2" and not the 6-12" that they were predicting.

The forecast for the next 4 days includes a high of 82* and also a chance of snow showers.

Snow. SNOW! Like, 6 inches of it. On April fricking 21st.

The SCHOOLS are CLOSED. It's a SNOW DAY at the end of APRIL.

This is not funny anymore. I wanna go home - and that's saying something, considering home is Winter-peg.

Apparently we have a monsoon season now. Our basement is flooding a little and I'm afraid to find out how much of my stuff has water damage (my bedroom is in the basement).

Have I ever mentioned that I hate living near rivers? Especially when they flood?

Roads and schools are closed, some nearby towns evacuated, etc. See, e.g., aerial video of some of the flooded areas (which have gotten worse in the past few days with no sign of slowing down).

Current projections are that this year will be worse than the '93 floods, which were among the worst in U.S. history. Super duper, gang.

I'm glad our child will grow up with proper rainy weather, just like home. Ali is okay with this so long as it isn't wimpy around snow.

Thumbs Up/Down, special weather edition:

Thumbs Up: Wind for walking in is fun!
Thumbs Down: Wind for bike riding in is painful!

Thumbs Up: It's almost June and I'm wearing pants and a hoodie to walk!
Thumbs Down: It's almost June and I'm wearing pants and a hoodie to walk!

It has been, more or less, a month and a half long blow-athon. It never fails that I have to ride into the wind, regardless of what direction I'm heading. For that reason alone, I vote for less wind.

I think we switched weather! It's been in the 40's and raining for like a week and a half. Some people are complaining about it, but I'm really happy for it, since our fire season started really early this year. This should give us some cushion! Besides, I REALLY want a fire when we go camping next weekend, and with all this rain, there shouldn't be any fire bans by then.

s*** is about to get real very quickly. Multiple tornados sighted early in our path. Projected ETA for the first of those systems to hit: 45 minutes. F2s and F3s projected. Possible F4 conditions before 8pm.

Super.

Be safe, mister. It's bad enough Adam's hometown got demolished this past week; let's not add your current town to the list. Definitely check in, so we know you and the Mrs. are both okay.

Woot. We're a-okay. We had some funnel clouds, super strong winds (upwards of 70mph), a bunch of lightning strikes, some hail, and torrential downpour (or is it "sidepour" when the wind blows it so it comes "down" horizontally?), but nothing touched down on us. Seems to have skipped over us, as there were some nearby touchdowns in all four directions. The independent cells (which are more likely to create stronger tornadoes) joined up to form a line about 15 minutes before rolling through us (which is good).

We were without power for a couple hours, there, but it's finally back, again. Based on what was happening in Missouri around 3:30-4:00, we were expecting a lot worse. It was nothing compared to the "inland hurricane" we had a few years back.
