Holy carp is it windy! Today and yesterday have been like Winnie the Pooh's blustery day!
Our bed is pushed up against what used to be a fireplace, but the university boarded it over at some point. Unfortunately, they left a vent. And unfortunately, they don't seem to have closed it up at the top of the chimney. All last night it sounded like one long, low rumble of thunder that just kept going and going.

But then I would have to punch him for that horrible accent, and I'd feel a little bad punching Dick Van Dyke.

We had an ice storm Sunday night into Monday. Not quite as bad as the one in December 2008 but our power was out for about 15 hours. I took Pheeny over to my mom's house since our place got down to 45*. My brother and I had some fun trivial pursuit games, as we are wont to do whenever we get together.

Eh, it's easier to quote myself than write a whole new post.Holy carp is it windy! Today and yesterday have been like Winnie the Pooh's blustery day!

I wouldn't say "blizzard", but it was one of the heavier snowfalls of the last few months. Snowfall totals ranged from 10 to 25 cm throughout the GTA, I believe. Unfortunately schools were not closed in most areas because it mainly happened during the day rather than overnight. Although it was already bad enough at 7am to make the morning commute quite slow and accident prone.

Argh, heat. I love it but it will always require some time to acclimate, even for desert rats such as myself. It is supposed to be 101 tomorrow, so let's give a big round of applause for the First Triple Digit Day of the year.
I also really need to get some razors so I can shave my Abominable Snow(wo)man legs because shorts while riding my bike are quickly becoming a necessity; only you can prevent heat stroke.

Snow. SNOW! Like, 6 inches of it. On April fricking 21st.
The SCHOOLS are CLOSED. It's a SNOW DAY at the end of APRIL.
This is not funny anymore. I wanna go home - and that's saying something, considering home is Winter-peg.

Have I ever mentioned that I hate living near rivers? Especially when they flood?
Roads and schools are closed, some nearby towns evacuated, etc. See, e.g., aerial video of some of the flooded areas (which have gotten worse in the past few days with no sign of slowing down).
Current projections are that this year will be worse than the '93 floods, which were among the worst in U.S. history. Super duper, gang.

Thumbs Up/Down, special weather edition:
Thumbs Up: Wind for walking in is fun!
Thumbs Down: Wind for bike riding in is painful!
Thumbs Up: It's almost June and I'm wearing pants and a hoodie to walk!
Thumbs Down: It's almost June and I'm wearing pants and a hoodie to walk!
It has been, more or less, a month and a half long blow-athon. It never fails that I have to ride into the wind, regardless of what direction I'm heading. For that reason alone, I vote for less wind.

I think we switched weather! It's been in the 40's and raining for like a week and a half. Some people are complaining about it, but I'm really happy for it, since our fire season started really early this year. This should give us some cushion! Besides, I REALLY want a fire when we go camping next weekend, and with all this rain, there shouldn't be any fire bans by then.

Woot. We're a-okay. We had some funnel clouds, super strong winds (upwards of 70mph), a bunch of lightning strikes, some hail, and torrential downpour (or is it "sidepour" when the wind blows it so it comes "down" horizontally?), but nothing touched down on us. Seems to have skipped over us, as there were some nearby touchdowns in all four directions. The independent cells (which are more likely to create stronger tornadoes) joined up to form a line about 15 minutes before rolling through us (which is good).
We were without power for a couple hours, there, but it's finally back, again. Based on what was happening in Missouri around 3:30-4:00, we were expecting a lot worse. It was nothing compared to the "inland hurricane" we had a few years back.
