No, I don't want it either! We've been trying so hard to get some snow, rain would just ruin it all!

First snow storm of the year! Woo hoo! Canceled meeting tonight! We have about 10" so far and it's still snowing hard! Plethora of exclamations! I love snow especially since I don't have to shovel.

Ahem. Ahem.
No one here lives as cold as I do.
(Okay, not quite as cold but pretty darn close. Usually within five degrees.)
What I really love is watching the weather channel maps when there's a rush of artic air pushing through Canada. You can see it dip down just a teensy bit into the US, then go back up. Where that dip is -- Grand Forks. Fargo (just an hour south) is always at least ten degrees warmer.
My friend was whining about 30 weather the other day in Tennessee. Thirty entire degrees above zero. I would kill for that.

I don't know how you folk do it, dealing with temperatures that low. I mean sometimes in Philly it gets bitter cold. And by that I mean temperatures around 0F with wind chills in the -teens or -20s. I dread going outside on those days, and the cold doesn't bother me much. -65F wind chill, I couldn't imagine.

I'm willing to bet that you are -- I just looked up a graph of Winnipeg's wind speed over the past couple of weeks and it looks pretty similar to what we've had.
The trouble is that degrees celcius and kilometers per hour always seems colder and faster than fahrenheit and miles per hour.
Although, actually, come to think of it -- yeah. You're right. I don't think we've had -60, because that would actually be higher than degrees F since it's past the magic -42 number. So, yeah, in retrospect, you win.
But I still want to be a cold weather misery snob right along with you and your husband. Everyone else on pweb is a wimp.
[Edited for concession to Canada's superiority]

I was in Wichita a couple of weeks ago. It was sunny and 54 degrees and I stayed outside and played and felt like I was in the tropics.

Yea...we don't get snow days. It snowed a foot last Friday and we had to go to school. On the plus side, it hasn't been as cold as Canada (oddly enough). It's been hovering around 0 lately.
I used to hate gravity because it would not let me fly. Now I realize it is gravity that lets me stand.

As cold as Canada? Just 3 days ago (at midnight, no less) it was in the mid 40s here (6-8C)....of course, by morning it was down below 20 (more like -8C)....Yea...we don't get snow days. It snowed a foot last Friday and we had to go to school. On the plus side, it hasn't been as cold as Canada (oddly enough). It's been hovering around 0 lately.
But come morning we'll have the same storm here that's hitting Syphon....and hopefully I'll get out of work because of it

A snow day tomorrow would be nice, but I'm predicting that as usual the weather will be just bad enough to screw me over on my drive in, but not bad enough to get me the day off. .

You people are crazy. I always get so happy when there's surprise snow.

I'm having the first snow day I've had since I was in kindergarten. We frolicked! Snow balls are banned on campus, so we had to go to a nearby park... but it was wonderful.

SNOW DAY!
My first snow day as a teacher! But they had to announce it after I'd gotten up and started breakfast. Ideally they could have made the call 10 minutes earlier so I could have just rolled over and gone back to sleep.

Zero you made me chuckle, jota you made me laugh out loud and get awkward stares from co-workers. Nice job to both of you.
But back to what zero said, WTF? They banned snow balls on campus.
This reminds me of a time during my freshman year. A bunch of my friends decided to play football on the football/soccer field in the middle of campus. We decided to play there because, you know, because it's a football field. We were rudely interrupted by a public safety man saying that we were not allowed to play footaball there because someone might get hurt and the university would liable. Fair enough. We were also informed that we couldn't not play at the local high school field which is off campus because we all lived on campus and the unversity was still liable if someone got hurt. Definitely a WTF moment. And that man nearly had a riot of sweaty, muddy football players. But we decided to stop the game and start drinking instead. So, that man's actions essentially led a group of about 16 students to stop exercising and start drinking. Always makes me laugh.
