How about that weather, then, eh?

38 degrees! What is this? School is cancelled again. Freezing rain overnight turns all the neighborhoods into ice rinks.
One week ago it was -30. There shouldn't be those drastic of changes in January. And Alaska definitely should not be this much warmer than Tennessee. I think mother nature might be on something...

heh that reminds me of a cold January day my freshman year of highschool. I got up at 6:00 out the door at 6:45 to catch the bus which usually came around 7:15 or so. it was a balmy -12, but no worries, the windchill was only -26. School was not yet canceled. We waited and waited and waited and waited for the bus. around 7:25 we thought we saw the bus about half a mile down the road but it turned around and went the other way so we figured nah it wasn't it (we were the last stop picked up) Round about 8:00 someone stops and asks why we're standing outside, don't we know that school was canceled because of the windchill. Not because of the cold, but apparently if the windchill drops to negative thirty or below school is canceled for windchill. also found out that if the temp drops to negative 20 or below it's canceled for cold.7 degrees this morning. I woke up for school, checked the weather, and turned off my alarm...and lied right back down. HELL no.
The reason for canceling school in these instances is because it is dangerous for kids to be standing out in that cold weather waiting for the bus.
We stood out there for more than an hour.
Thanks guys for being on top of that cancelation, still a bit ticked about that. but I was pleased enough at having a day off school.

Okay, I realize that weather-wise I really have nothing to complain about, but still. In all my time in North Dakota, I never spent more than 10 minutes scraping ice off of my car. This morning it took me, literally, half an hour. I see now what everyone has been talking about regarding the ice here.

Waves of snow washed over the car on my drive home this morning. It was beautiful, especially since no one else was on the road and I didn't have to worry about hitting them.

Okay, so you would think that in a land where it's -20C or below for Dec - March would be happy to have some days where it is above zero.
Not so!
It went up to 2 yesterday (that's the 30's for you in the land of F), which meant everything melted.
And then it went down to -2, which means everything froze.
Can you imagine walking on an icecube that has a thin layer of water over it?
Outside my house is a skating rink, everyone is walking around holding onto buildings and fences.

Normally I would be happy, but I have a road trip coming up this weekend.

Today's weather was so awesome. A little cold, but not so cold that it makes it impossible to be outside. Just a bit of rain to let you know it's there.
But the wind. Such a strong wind makes being outside so much fun, especially at this temperature and with a slight rain. I just wanted to run around outside, twirling.

You get snow, we get a week of 'spring' and then on to summer. It's in the 80s and will only go up from here on out. It's been necessary for a few days, but I finally put my blanket back in the linen closet and I really need to put my sweats away again until November/December.

It dumped a foot of snow this weekend. This is bad because I'm quite ready for spring. But it's good because we have snow and daylight to play in--and next week is spring break.

BEAUTIFUL! Sunny and 70s- 80s. Screw the gym, I may actually ride my bike this evening.
I'm beginning to be resigned to the whole daylight-savings time thing.

This week is PERFECT weather. upper 40s/low 50s, sunny and no wind. Warm enough to run around in sandals and t-shirts but cold enough that the snow isn't melting all at once.

Today was gorgeous. 60s and sunny. Which enabled me to be a crazy person and attempt to pull off of the highway numerous times in order to try to take pictures of the red-tailed hawks I've been stalking. I spent around 2 hours doing this and failed to get one picture. Those suckers are smart!
