Things I wish my kitchen had
a good blender
a food processor
a coffee grinder
an actual rack (or tray) for my spices and herbs
a garlic masher
THE PLATES AND FORKS BACK, PLEASE AND THANK YOU
about 20 fewer people using it

the first and last are probably in the dangerous book for girls the second and third are in, iirc, the dangerous book for boys.

How do you reference Jurassic Park for apocalypse readiness without having Ian Malcolm? seriously.

also, burping on command: take a big mouthful of air, and swallow it, you should be able to feel the bubble somewhere in your esophagus. then open your mouth, and force the bubble out by tightening your abs and sucking your stomach in+up. maybe I should make a diagram ;)

I haven't read the book, I've only seen the movie, and Jeff Goldblum played him; I can't separate the two.

Jeff Goldblum will forever and always be the freaky human fly to me and I don't want a freaky human fly.

that's a crime, go read the books. Actually Crichton is great for supplying different types of apocalypse-readiness gurus.

5 of my aspirations that failed:
-Being a basketball legend- when you're 5 ft 11 foot with bad shooting, it isn't really practical.
-Dubbing cartoons- my speech impairments stopped that one.
-Becoming an internationally famous rapper- again, speech impairment. Also, I'm not rapper material: I'm white, with (thanks god) a good life. What can I whine about? (No offense to any rap music lovers out there- I myself am a rap fan)
-Being an actor- my 10th grade Theater class teacher showed me the light against that one, which was just not me.
-Breaking a Guinness World Record- I couldn't find the record that was easy enough for me to overcome.
Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down?
We do! We do!
Who leaves Atlantis off the maps? Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car? Who makes Steve Gutenberg a star?
We do! We do!
Who robs cavefish of their sight? Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do, we do!

Clearly you misspelled the word in your quote to justify keeping me off your list, because I have a great talent for spelling and grammar.

My grasp of the English language couldn't be more perfect.

Things not to buy at the borders 40% off dvd sale as they clear out stock:
postwar kurosawa eclipse set
documentaries of louis malle eclipse set
lubitsch musicals eclipse set
raymond bernard eclipse set.
astiare/rogers ultimate collection
jimmy stewart signature collection
any other eclipse set I see there.

things I would have to mightily resist not buying if it were available today but will probably mentally budget for on 9/9/9
http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/0 ... pstoryview

I also should not take advantage of the excellent offer columbia house just sent me, 8 dvds for .49 each (plus shipping) one more for 9.95 with two more to buy in two years. adding in shipping and the whole deal works out to about 7.40 per dvd when you factor in 20+shipping for the two more you need to buy. tempting, so very tempting.

Hey, Gravity Defier, you know, we don't all have the knowledge/time to be be perfect english/grammar-users.
I mean, sometimes I'm rushing out the door while trying to finish typing something, and i don't have time to check it for perfect grammar. Some of us have LIVES.

Now you're going to call me lazy again

Yeah, I called her lazy once before and I don't think I was wrong to do so in that case.

Either way, I would love to get bitchy and call her something else but alas, it is just too funny that anyone might think I was serious in what I said to zero in this particular thread. People here already know I'm atrocious when it comes to spelling and grammar, so if she wants to go around finding all my posts and then flinging crap about having lives my way, cool, she should knock herself out. I have more than enough posts to help her in that quest.

For some reason I thought that was a joke at first. If you don't like your grammar to be fixed, you're in the wrong place. With the grammar freaks (meant completely in a good way) around here, it's bound to happen.

Funny, I was thinking that today. I was like "I wonder what's happening on the Enderverse side... eh, it'll survive without me."

I see someone posted in the Random Speculation section, but I'm betting they're just saying something about a fan movie or something.

Things that make me feel old:

- The realization that kids born in the 90s are old enough to vote.

- The realization that none of my students were born when the Jays won their first World Series. (Most were infants when they won the second)

- That time when me an my buddies went to see "The Phantom Menace" right after school on opening night... That was TEN YEARS ago!

- The fact that a number of people who I went to school with are engaged, married, and/or have children.

- Having students guess my age at over 30!

- Knowing for a fact that North American cartoons reached their peak in the 80s. (Poor kids today growing up without the original Transformers).

- Noticing that slang has changed since I was a teen.

- No longer looking forward to birthdays.

- Jayelle's nostalgia thread.

Things that make me feel young

- Still being carded.

- Being mistaken for a student by new staff members.

- Hearing colleagues talk about the good old days, and the not so good old days.

- Still being the youngest in my department.

- Discussing video games, anime, and current popular music with my students.
"Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic."
- Frank Herbert's 'Dune'

Totally Materialistic Stuff that I Want When I Have A Real Job

An Ipod (or some sort of MP3 player)
A Piano
Halfway Decent Living Room Furniture
A Dresser. (Maybe two.)
A Nifty Toaster (I have a toaster now, but it is definitely Not Nifty.)
A Nice Jewelry Box
Nice Jewelry (not much. I'm too prone to losing things. Still.)
A Wii (Stupid XBox 360. Should've ignored boyfriend and gotten the Wii.)
A Nice Sturdy Non-Wal-Mart Bookshelf
Housekeeping Services Once or Twice a Month
A Microwave with a Working Display (in contrast to the current one, which fortunately I learned to use before the display went dead.)
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

*whacks Jeesh and Adam on the hand* Look up at Kirsten and Jason's posts and see how theirs belong in this thread because they weren't talking about things to do.

Kitchen Appliances And Items I Lust After, But Most Likely Will Not Own Until I Am Getting Married And Register For Them:

A Kitchen Aid
A pasta roller
Mini tart pans
Large tart pans
An apple corer
A full pastry decorating kit, with high quality pastry bags that won't split when I pipe frosting
Metal pie pans
A dutch oven
A high quality, very large food processor that WILL NOT DIE ON ME NO MATTER WHAT
And mostly, assuming it ever goes into production (please, god, please!) a Kitchen Sync!
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Things I Have Never Understood
Why guys are so annoying, weird, and disgusting
Why people have to go through puberty
Why we have to learn about dead people in social studies
Why we can't feel through our nails and hair
How man was so smart as to actually develop computers and stuff like that
Why people bully others
Why the bullied don't hardly do anything about being bullied
How we can't get to Neverland by flying
You musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.
