World Hegemony and the Free People of Earth

Talk about anything under the sun or stars - but keep it civil. This is where we really get to know each other. Everyone is welcome, and invited!

Who agrees that action (BY US) needs to be taken in order to achieve world unity and peace for everyone?

It happened in the book it can happen in real life..
Finally, I'm glad someone besides me is saying that, though that's different from what you were saying earlier.
Nonetheless, thank you.

Now, hypothetically speaking, what do you think the nations of the world (today) would do if we actually had an alien force trying to take over the world and kill us all.
I don't think we have the technology yet to build a "battle school" or whatever like that in the book, or and ansible.
I think they would band together, at least the majority of them, and would try to make starships to fend them off, don't you think?

So then, which nations do you think would be the ones to join together?

Well, accord to some there is already a movement afoot; but the thing is in order for this to happen it will basically be slavery all over again because our lives will be controlled by a few people, which according to the believers of the conspiracy this is what the ultimate goal of Socialism is.

Personally, I am not sure about the conspiracy; but I am friends with someone who is and he has given me a book about it called "None Dare Call it Conspiracy" by Gary Allen.

It really is a stimulating read (and quick read), regardless what your opinions are on the conspiracy. I have read it and still do not know what to believe; but he makes a great case. Of course, I have been in an on-going discussing with someone that whole hearty believes in this case. Please note this book may be more interested for those in the US since it is basically a case for strict Constitutionalism, which none of the major political parties really respect or follow (despite the political rhetoric).

Anyways, to get back on topic the organization that is supposedly behind this is the "Council of Foreign Relations" (CFR).

(note that I didn't bother to look through the entire thread to see if there had been anything about what I said already)

I figure I don't know enough to make an informed decision, but I'd say that we should leave it up to people who know more, but based on what I know, this is very unlikely to happen.

With the EnderVerse, the Hegemony was originally conceived to unify the world against the invading aliens, for the Humans would have to gather all of the their strength to be used against the Buggers, and not fighting them self. I wouldn't be surprised if there was initially opposition to this idea, but those had probably been crushed. Also, there was the idea that the buggers were the beast of Revelation, as described in A War of Gifts and there were pacifist that opposed action against even aliens who are dangerous and unpredictable.

Total World Wide unity would be sort of against Human nature, we are generally unindividualized, but we have since figured out we need to work together to get things done.

Ultimately, I'd say this kind of thing would be pretty hard to pull of in the real world, remember that Ender's Game is ruled by Orson Scott Card, so he can do anything he so chooses. And there would definitely be opposition by various groups if this would be ever conceived of.

Crayons. Issuing brand new 64-crayon boxes of Crayola (with built in sharpener) and coloring sheets to all the world leaders as they're talking. Peace will just happen because it's very difficult to be power-hungry and coloring peaceful scenes at the same time. Or, perhaps, we give people who are traditional enemies boxes that are missing key colors that the other person has. They can practice negotiating skills by having to barter with each other for the brick red and periwinkle.

Or, there's always Jani's and my old idea about giving the UN cards with smilies :stonedkermit:
I don't think you have a realistic understanding of the Muslims who want to kill you and steal your freedom and sell it for bombs.
So, you're saying we should maybe upgrade to those fancy 96-count boxes?
There's another home somewhere,
There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

Oh, I got the sarcasm all right, but I might as well use what's said. It helps get people talking.

I don't think your "everybody" counts as majority.
As much as humans love war, they also want peace.
Mmm, I never said anything about a majority. I said you were wrong. You were saying that everybody wants international peace; that's simply not true.
I know just how much nationalism means to everyone and I don't want it to be dissolved.
And you don't see this as a potential threat to international peace?
And even though that seems highly unlikely, it's not an impossible idea.
Here's the thing: anything is possible. It's possible that none of us will wake up in the morning. It's possible that you'll be mauled by evil killing machines (read: bears). It's possible that Bill Gates will donate all of his money to the Syphon the Sun Law School Education Fund (all donations welcome, of course). Any number of things are possible. But are they probable? Not a chance.

There will always be causes that people will believe in deeply enough to fight for: democracy, religion, nationalism, ethnic heritage, political ideology, whathaveyou. And there will always be those who try to suppress others through force, manipulation, whathaveyou. It's what makes the world go 'round.

As Eisenhower once said, if you want total security (order/"peace"), go to prison. You're fed, clothed, given medical care, and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom. Order and liberty are constantly battling it out. The more of one you have, the less of the other. Sometimes it's best to just cut it fifty-fifty.
Step softly; a dream lies buried here.

It was sarcasm...and you can't use words that I was using against you.. ?

and honestly, just look at the poll results, 1 person voted for it, and it was you, everyone else voted that it would never happen
