I'm kind of with Kim on this one.

Responsible Conduct of Research (Shamoo and Resnik)
The Physics of Radiation Therapy (Kahn)
Too many journal articles to list

But also...

The Last Unicorn (Beagle.. because I met him at Dragon*con)
The Princess Bride (Goldman, because Pweb made me do it)

you're aces, Ollie!!!

plus, now you get input on what we read next!
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Over a Thousand Hills I Walk With You by Hanna Jansen.

It's a true story about a girl who survived the Rwandan genocide when she was 8. It's written by her adoptive mother. The writing isn't fantastic (and neither is the translation out of German for that matter) because I don't think the author is really a writer -- she just really wanted to write a book about her daughter's experiences. It's really touching, though. A bit of a downer, of course (her whole family was killed) but you can see, coming through the pages, how she was able to continue her life afterward -- a very brave and vivacious girl. Highly recommended. :)

I guess I'm now reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson.

at this point in time I am totally engulfed in Angels and Demons. It is an amazing novel and I've got to say, it is way better than The Da Vinci Code. Also, I am finishing reading Jarhead although I have kind of lost interest in that one.

Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
I started that but didn't have time to finish. It was a little confusing, but I'd like to finish it someday.

I haven't read LotR. Mostly because I tried to read the Hobbit and couldn't finish -- it just bored me. Maybe I'll skip the Hobbit someday and go on to just the LotR series without it. Haven't seen the movies either because I haven't read the books.

I'm only currently reading school stuff and Harry Potter fanfiction (mostly of the Ron/Hermione variety). I have a copy of Winnie Ille Pu (Winnie the Pooh in Latin) which I should get reading. And the Greedy Bastard Diary by Eric Idle. But those are on my "I'll get to it eventually" list.

I didn't read the Hobbit until after reading LotR. The section of LotR's prologue called 'Of the finding of the Ring' summarizes the only part of the Hobbit that is relevant. To this day I've only read the Hobbit once, and LotR 5 or 6 times.

I just finished rereading Kushiel's Scion. I'm going by the library tomorrow, I think, because I need some new books.

started rereading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

The writing tone is very different from the later books, this feels like a children's book, not so much a book for everyone that 3-6 embody. Like the difference between Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.

Also Dobby refers to voldemort as 'the Dark Lord' probably because Lucius does, our first clue that Lucius was a definite Death Eater.

Why didn't the death eater trials look to see if someone had the dark mark or not? if it's a mark of Voldemort's staunchest supporters then they're unlikely to have been imperius cursed. Why didn't anyone check for the dark mark on Sirius? Perhaps the lack of dark mark is why Dumbledore still trusted him?

I wonder if Snape's pre-fall turn was related to the fate of RAB?
So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
