Wow that would be great to explore there!

I've been struggling for years with how to identify my religious beliefs. Up until a few weeks ago, I was trying to find a place for myself on the terribly broken model of Theists on one side, Atheists on the other and Agnostics in the middle.

It finally clicked that it makes a lot more sense to graph Atheism-Theism on one axis and Agnosticism-Gnosticism on another axis. This makes life so much simpler. I just feel like an idiot for not realizing my mistake sooner.

Yes, "agnostic" is not the middleground between theist and atheist! The evangelicals/fundies seem to want that to be the case. They try to insist that you can't truly be an atheist, but perhaps you are just agnostic. It is less scary to them that way, I guess.

I used to believe this, too.

I actually consider myself to be a gnostic atheist these days, but I have a hard time justifying that outside of particular deities.

I don't know if I'll ever get used to seeing my name/nickname used for another person. That's what I get for having a not-common name, I'm used to being the only one!

So this student at my university was caught up in this big SAT scandal in the New York area last year. If any of you have heard about it.

During the awkward "let's get to know each other! One interesting thing about yourself" part of my Philosophy of Law class, I heard someone say "My name is Sam and I like making money" in the cockiest voice imaginable. I recognized the voice.

I find it somewhat ironic he was breaking the law, and now I find him in my class studying the philosophy of law...

I stayed up until 1 in the morning reading Walking Dead comics and thankfully, the only part of it to seep into my dreams was the gym from the prison. I played an epic game of dream dodgeball in that gym last night.

I've had little indentations in my head at my temples for quite a few years now thanks to glasses and the fact that I have a fat head (and every other part of my body). I am pretty sure that the grooves are NOT in the bone, just the fat under the skin above the skull. Pretty sure. Not 100% sure. I used to worry about them, but I haven't noticed any ill effect yet.

They are insanely strict about who and how they give out library cards to in my apartment's town...I can't get one through them (unless I surrender my AZ license and get an IL one). But I just overheard them mention needing birth certificates or divorce decrees for kids if they have a different last name than the parent trying to get them one. They take their library-ing seriously around here.

FYI: You only have 90 days to change your license.

Wow... To get one here--which also gets me free into a number of local attractions--I just had to have a local address, and they didn't even confirm that with a piece of post or anything!

They asked me for proof of address, and when I didn't have it (I'd JUST moved), they shrugged and posted the card to the address I gave them. I guess they figured that if I didn't live there, I wouldn't get the card? Either way, yeah, they're not terribly strict here.

That's how it is around here, really easy to get one.

Will didn't update his license until probably a year (or more) after moving. When we finally went in to get it updated they said he needed proof of address, and when he said he didn't have one they asked if he lived with me and they said they can just take my word for it.

My library system is pretty strict about needing proof of address (they do accept utility bills or rental agreements, though). It makes sense since it's such a great library system with so many resources offered free to patrons (including e-books and free music downloads as well as a host of employment aids and lots of media borrowing). The system was named Library of the Year in Library Journal (a publication started by Melvil Dewey himself) a few years back. You CAN get a card if you aren't a resident of the county, but it costs $95 a year or something.

The library system in the last place I lived you could get a non-resident card for like $30. Also you didn't have to LIVE in the counties covered by it, you could work in one of them and get a card, too. I think you had to show a paystub or something. (Actually that wasn't the one in the place I lived, that was across the river in Augusta, and I worked there. I also had a card in the system for the county in which I lived, one state over.)

Every library I've ever used required two things: (1) a photo ID to prove you are who you say you are (if you're a child, you need a birth certificate or social security card and your parent must present a photo ID), and (2) two pieces of machine-printed mail as proof of residency within the city/township limits.
