I've been trying to figure out a way to make an invisi-text bbcode, but it's complicated by there being four different styles and every single one of them using different background colors.

Just a thought, but have you considered just adjusting the text opacity instead of trying to match the bg color? I'm not sure on browser support, but something like:

As for me, I'm not married and I'm childless, both wins for the time being. I work at a library in AZ but am in the middle of a job hunt in the Chicago area. I'm trying and mostly failing to help out with getting this place a homepage and information center like it once had. This is my 8th year here and will be coming up on 9 next May. I also talk way too much around these parts. I think, sadly, that's about it.

Anyhow, I finished grad school for my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, got married the same week I defended my dissertation, a bit over a year ago, and am now 27.5 weeks pregnant. Also, currently jobless, but hopefully that will be rectified when baby is born and I can start seriously looking.

Well, for the basics... last I logged on, I was probably still in undergrad in Florida. Since then I've graduated and moved to Washington, DC for no justifiable reason. Just packed up one day and left. Got a job with an online news group as an assistant, which was so horrific I gained 30 pounds and went on anti-depressants. Got "laid off," which was their nice way of firing me because I hated them and they hated me, but luckily had already been looking for work and was offered a full-time graduate level internship with the Department of Transportation. Also am in grad school for Strategic Public Relations, which I consider a waste of time and money, but I am officially done next week if I ever get around to finishing my final paper.

For three years I've been dating a Canadian, who was recently deported (yes, apparently we DO deport Canadians) thanks to a visa mix-up by his company. This is a vast improvement from the string of boys I dated in college who would break up with me once they realized I was smarter than they are.

It's generally a very happy life for me! Good friends, good job, living in a good city!

Any good gossip around here? I've heard mention of inter-Pweb marriages?

I'll be succint since I am only able to type with one hand at the moment.

All the years I was in choir, that was one of my biggest fears! Stupid risers... Reminds me of this one year while were were at regionals, a kid from another school (while performing!) passed out while standing on the top tier of the risers and fell face first to the floor in front of him. One of the worst things i've ever seen.

Woops, I meant lock their knees and get light headed from the experience. We were never attacked as such.

I believe your problem was with your spelling of the word "feint", which, I admit, I chuckled at for some time.

The science of humor

Since I was young I've often idly wondered about what humor is. Like, if you needed to explain it to some alien race or something that did not have humor, how would you explain it? How did it come to be? I could never really come up with anything substantial, except explaining certain specific areas of humor. I've never really been interested enough to go looking into it, so that article/articles are the first I've really seen at a real explanation behind it. Just thought it was interesting.

Question for everyone: Does anyone here ever do freelance/independent work? I'm trying to figure out the appropriate length of time to put on my invoice for a "gimmie money by" date, but am not sure of the rules.
