Thoughts anyone? In a fascinating experiment, researchers at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation discovered that a muscle can be strengthened just by thinking about exercising it.
For 12 weeks (five minutes a day, five days per week) a team of 30 healthy young adults imagined either using the muscle of their little finger or of their elbow flexor. Dr. Vinoth Ranganathan and his team asked the participants to think as strongly as they could about moving the muscle being tested, to make the imaginary movement as real as they could.
Compared to a control group – that did no imaginary exercises and showed no strength gains – the little-finger group increased their pinky muscle strength by 35%. The other group increased elbow strength by 13.4%.
What's more, brain scans taken after the study showed greater and more focused activity in the prefrontal cortex than before. The researchers said strength gains were due to improvements in the brain's ability to signal muscle.3

Nah, but Labour took the seat so it doesn't really matter anyway. It'd still be nice if we end up in a Hung Parliament with the Lib Dems in enough clout to push electoral reform but it's looking a surprisingly terrible night for us so far.Are you voting for the idiot fella who forgot his mic was on?

I'm actually using this board for its Ender-related purposes tonight. I'm trying to decide whether I should lend an 11 year old Ender's game. He reads a lot, but I get the impression he reads mostly actual YA books. He wanted to know what books I read, though, so I was thinking that would be a good place to start. Since most of the others I own up here would be better for when he's a few years older.....He was like, "my books have murder in them!" as if that made recommending anything okay..LOL

And don't worry, it's going back after this week's contest is over.

In honor of the AP Psych test I beasted today, I decided to make a poem/rap:
Got that boy Cez,
stressed out hard
by an AP Psych test
But when the time came,
it was like a game of chess
"Checkmate Psych, you're up against the best"
"haha you jest, you are doomed to fail this quest"
.........Ummmmmmmmmmmmm
way too lazy to think up the rest.

So... I just thought i would share some pretty cool stuff because i noticed someone said that none of their teachers were cool enough to give them EG homework... and well...
In 10th grade my english teacher made us all read EG at the begining of the year. He also devided us into groups and assigned commanders... we all got to pick what to call our armies and we all had to turn in homework together and the commanders got to decide who got credit for what. We had battles with the other armies every friday which consisted of Questions from the book we were reading... ex: our army had to prepare 20 questions before battle day (true or false, fill in the blank, or just straight questions like: what was the nurses name that took out enders monitor at the begining of the book?-- all depending on what 'level' our army was) and if the other army got it right they got a point... and so on.
I hear he has slowly evolved this to also involve other teachers... and random assignments/ types of scavenger hunts to gain levels. and that everyone in the army has to pass them before your team would level...
pretty much, he is the coolest teacher in the world, and that was the funnest class ive ever had. and i thought you could all appreciate how much work he put into it, as well as how much it taught us to work independantly as well as in a group.
oh and he was also the creative writing teacher. and pretty much amazing.

I had a random conversation recently with a friend of mine... we were talking about the movie Flight of the Navigator and somehow the topic of an Ender's Game movie came up and he said "Wasn't there a cheesy Ender's Game movie in the 70's or 80's?" and I said "No." in a matter of fact kind of way and he said "Really? I think there was." I said no again and when he didn't believe me (and Paul was totally laughing to himself), I had to say "Trust me, if I know about anything, I know about the Ender's Game movie." I mentioned that I was on a site about EG, but not the details but if he had insisted any more, I may have had to reveal my true geekhood that I have been here for 9 years and am a mod.

I am trying to decide if going to the farmer's market, which is across the street from my apartment, in PJ bottoms is acceptable. Though, now I'm realizing I should put on sweats because its raining and I don't want to wash them. Since I ripped the seam on my other favorite pair last weekend.
My cousin, who I haven't seen in a decade & only talk to because of Facebook, is graduating from grad school next month and I am thinking of going to visit her because its in a city I've never been to. But I don't know her at all & wouldn't really have the time to see much of NYC. And its also the weekend after my birthday so I was kind of thinking of going to see my family instead/meet them in SF. Sooooo. IDK.
