Ah thanks, worked a charm on the Daily Show, but Southpark seems to be a bit trickier.

Also, if you look for the newest episodes, try Sidereel.com (in it, search for South Park or the Daily Show) right after they're aired; good people upload the episodes to Megavideo or such and post their links there.

Yeah, and notice the "only three". I mean, what's that, you don't have just three like everyone else?

Edit: Hmm, tempting...

When I was talking to Brat yesterday, my mom was watching TV and I just happened to see/hear this, which made me laugh.

Also, from what I've seen of the Toy Story franchise, I can say that it's things like that and The Brave Little Toaster that contributed to my hoarding tendencies.

Would anyone like to help me out with an interpretation issue?

How do you all read statements/questions that begin with an ellipses? For example: "...okay." or "...well, why not?"

Just like with "heh," I read a hostility/annoyance into it. Where "heh" is the flippant 'whatever' shoulder shrug of doom, the beginning ellipses is more of a "*I don't know how to respond to something so f'ing stupid pause* [insert attempt here]."

I would read it as the cue to begin ranting about the overuse of ellipses in daily life. At least, in my head.

This is why if everyone listened to me and only used ellipses as they are grammatically intended, life would be so much better.

However, if I were a normal person who had not been traumatized by that dumb professor's use of ellipses, I would probably read it as a pause. I suppose whether or not I read it as hostile would depend on the tone of conversation and my prior experiences with that person and hostility. I might read it more as confusion, surprise, or slow-wittedness.

after a sentance I tend to read it as a trailing off voice.

as though I were going to continue the thought but sort of lost the thread and or destination I was trying to arrive at.

so sort of an 'anyway'

or it could just be a pause longer than a period that also indicates you sort of draw out and emphasize the word preceding it as though the single word were a whole sentence. (see below, which could be written as "damn... seriously?" and pronounced with a long drawn out damn).

...before a sentance I almost never write these, but if I were to use it or see it an IM I would consider it a 'thoughtful pause." another way to write hmmm....

an ... by itself can be a lot of things, like "errr" or a noncomittal "hmm" that's sort of an acknowledgement that you said something but not an agreement. it can be as simple as, "I'm thinking." or as complicated as a long low whistle plus "damn, seriously?". so the hardest to read out of context is an ellipsis by itself, but in context I generally don't look at it ever the way Alea does (implying stupidity? huh?).

I see it as a kind of a space killer. Like a "like" or a "yeah..."

implying stupidity? huh?
Maybe I've been dealing with stupid people for too long but the only time I tend to need to pause to respond to anyone is if I'm stumped and thinking it over or if the first thing I would say is too snarky to politely use. (Like the time the patron asked if we had any children's books, while standing smack in the middle of the children's department. That was a very "...yeeesss. *I'd like to call you an idiot or roll my eyes but recovers* I'd be glad to help you find something more specific if you'd like" moment.)

I eliminated the think time as a possible interpretation since I've seen it used by a few people online, where they've responded well after they received my previous response and thus wouldn't need to alert me that they're mulling it over. I mean, I'm talking 15 minutes to a day here in response time lags, depending on the person, so if they're still thinking it over, they may as well take a few more minutes or just flat out say "I don't know."

That leaves the snarky comment possibility. But, I took into consideration that my reaction is probably not normal, hence me asking. I wanted to see what the other possibilities were and just for the record, I've never been offended by anyone's use, just curious.

I also realize I'm caring about this just a little too much, so I'm done. Thanks. :)

It's a hesitation, to me. I have the meatspace conversation equivalent in my mind, but it's kinda hard to demonstrate in text... Like, if you were about to say something, but freeze and say something else after a pause. Not that I was actually about to say something else; it's just a sudden pause.

Or maybe just a pause in general. "Hesitation" seems to work for me, but maybe it's a special case.

I'd like to be random.

Quoted from here
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The family of an 8-year-old boy who fatally shot himself at a gun show in western Massachusetts say the Uzi submachine gun jammed twice before he lost control of the weapon and fired into his head.

The family of Christopher Bizilj (bah-SEEL') of Ashford, Conn., says in a civil lawsuit filed Friday that a 15-year-old instructor who cleared the gun and handed it back to the victim failed to provide proper guidance.

I asked my boss today if we could ban children from my department or at the very least make it a closed stacks area.

He stared for a moment before politely, and quizzically, informing me: "But...you're the children's department...?"

And then I showed him the 200+ books I had to pick up and wand in because of one, maybe two children. He didn't even get to see the shelves I straightened out without bothering to wand in because it would have been too, too much.

I use it the same as you, Alea. That starting pause is "this is too stupid for words... but i am a polite person, and do not know if making an exception for this person could harm me in any way" XD

Of course, my parents get the blunt end of it, because, well, they are family. I get it from them, too, in any case... not that i am too stupid for words, ever

Okay, jotabe. Here is my order of preference for your icons (ones I like most to like least):

1. Leekspin
2. Spanish Inquisition
3. Kirby

Why are you all such horrible people... hatin' on Kirby.

Actually, I think I'd put leekspin first, too. I tend to see Kirby elsewhere in games, but here is really the only place I see leekspin. I don't really like the spanish inquisition, but that's just me.

So, thanks to the wonders of Facebook, I found out that my uncle writes a furry webcomic. I read a bit of it, but stopped when I got to a very awkward, very explicit sex (yiff?) scene. Then yesterday my mom called me to ask if I knew about it, since I love webcomics, and said I should read it and tell them about it.

Hmm, maybe this belongs under confessions? It seemed so random to me.
