Also... I, too, am twelve and giggling at all the ball-talk.
I was doing so well until I got to Ed's last comment. Different balls for different occasions, I'll bet.

Me, too. I love the blacklight, music blaring nights our bowling alleys do on the weekends.

Other randomness, a patron, I guess by way of small talking me, told me he saw me riding on my bike recently and was tempted to hit me. He said it with a smile, so...haha?

Uh, wow. I can't imagine thinking that, let alone saying it. Unless that was his awkward way of saying he was tempted to hit ON you.

Yeah, he pantomimed driving while he said it but if he meant hitting on me, wrong way to go about that. I'm already defensive about male attention while at work as it is, no need to add death threats.

Also, why am I awake? Why have I been awake for an hour and a half? What is this strange building I'm in with all the airplanes?

I was so proud of myself; we got into Phoenix around 10:30, I think, and I showered, laid out my stuff for today, went to bed, and actually managed to fall asleep! This never happens before a trip! Only...I woke up an hour and a half later excited over some idea I can't even remember now and stayed awake for probably an hour. So, as usual for a trip, I am running on not nearly enough sleep.

To start things off the right way, the machine refused to give me a boarding pass, so I'll have to make a call later to make sure I can get back home on Sunday. Fun times.

It was probably one of those things that sounded funny/cute in the guy's head, but he now wishes didn't make it as far as his mouth.

He probably left thinking, "Damn! I blew it with that cute girl at the library. :( "

Candlepin bowling is where it's at. Miss you, East Coast.
Come to Milwaukee. We have candlepin bowling! and Beer! and, regular bowling too (it's like a HUGE part ofMilwaukee heritage), and, well, lots of other cool stuff.
Tell us about candlepin bowling!
It's so much fun. Pins are much smaller, as are the balls and the lanes. It's like bowling miniaturized. The place near us that has it was a bar that added their lanes in the 30s. They were a "house of ill repute" and they added the lanes when the neighbors always asked why all the married men were going to this bar and spending so much time there. The lanes were a convenient excuse. They still don't have mechanical pin setters or score keepers, so there are two pin monkeys that set up the pins after every frame. There are four lanes, and they are always full, so you have to call and make reservations ahead of time. Otherwise it's a very typical Milwaukee bar, two Schlitz's for $3.00, a nice jukebox, and a history that could fill books.

I know, I'm a terrible person but I will do better today. I promise.

We have this great system worked out, even. Mich randomly points at something and I just take a picture. So, there are at least a lot of nonsensical pictures.

What? There is a careful selection process for things to point at! Locations and objects are carefully weighed against other locations and objects to decide on which would be featured for the best memories of The Portland Experience.

I guess we could have more pictures of people...

I hate to break it to you Jan, but that signature has been in place for a few weeks now. Just like the "I wonder if anyone will even notice if I change the placeholder text here." had been changed when I came back to Pweb, and apparently people only noticed it when we switched to PWeb IV.

Holy crap. I finally read the synopsis for The Secret and now completely understand why my brother has been spouting the most ridiculous nonsense for the past few years. Now I understand why he and his wife wrote the two books they've written; where the ridiculous ideas presented in the books came from; why his advice to me is always so dumb-sounding.

He's been telling me to read The Secret for years.

So I'm really behind on pweb, so have random responses to the complete randomness:

Bowling: I used to be not-bad at bowling when I was a kid (not good, really... maybe I was compared to the others at the time, but we were kids; my season average or whatever was way below 200). I think I remember using a 12 or so ball. But after all that, whenever we went for fun I'd just find the lightest ball my fingers would fit in (I used to be able to find a usable 8 now and then). It was just so much more fun to throw it as fast as possible down the lane, and I'm, of course, weak as hell.

Also, candle pin bowling sounds like duck pin bowling. Wikipedia suggests they are at least a bit similar.

Joking about hitting people while driving: apparently others don't find this funny? When I'm in the car with others, there's often jokes about how kids are 5 points, or whatever.

Portland: I thought Mich pointing at things was a good setup for just taking pictures of Mich pointing, but nobody minds me.
