Irrational Irritation:

People who talk to themselves. I guess some people can't help it, but it just drives me nuts. The lady sitting next to me right now is having a full on conversaion with herself.

Another one:

People who talk on their cell phones while i'm trying to help them at work. It's just so rude.

and my last one:

People who can't pay attention to a phone conversation, but think they can. When you're on the phone with someone, don't attempt to do something else (watch tv, be on the computer) if you can't pay attention.

Irrational Irritation: That so many of the irritations in this thread are actually "rational".

Irrational irritation:

Food on commercials that wants to be eaten. Like the hot pockets commercials where the eggs and cheese and stuff are all sad that nobody ever eats them. HELLO! I do not want to think of my food as suicidal! Along those lines, the Pillsbury Doughboy, who I think someone should put in to bake.

There's another glimpse of sky...
There's another way to lean
into the wind, unafraid.
There's another life out there...

Along the same lines...

Irrational irritation:

Repeated commercials on local tv channels for food establishments that do not exist anywhere NEAR where I live...namely, Sonic. Stop looking delicious and not existing!

On the theme of annoying commercials....

Completely rational irritation: HeadOn. There is a rather amusing parody of it, though, as I recall.

That commercial nearly ruins Jeopardy for me. They play it at the end of every episode. Gah! And it would be slightly okay if I thought it worked but it's homeopathic crap.

I think one of the mods said it was 45 seconds.

Ironically, when I tried to post this, the flood limit caught me.

irrational irritation: skirts/shorts shorter than the jacket being worn over them
If you ever find yourself reading a book entitled The Bible, you will find yourself reading the story of Adam and Eve, whose daring lives led them to put on clothing for the first time to escape from the snake infested garden in which they were living.

Irritation: My stats professor just has one furrow in between his eyebrows. It's quite deep.

Guilty pleasure: my secret total attraction to him, aside from that.

Guilty pleasure: Watching 7th Heaven, especially since they brought it back, but even before. I just don't know what it is the acting and writing are mediocre to say it nicely, but there is something about it that just makes me have to find out what the Camden is up too, every week.

I have a shameful love of doggie sweaters. You would think that those stupid things would embody all that I find wrong with the world... and in theory I think they're disgusting. But every time I see a little Yorkshire Terrier a little red knit sweater I just can't help it, I find it absolutely adorable and despite myself, I melt.

guilty pleasure: phone calls with my dad. my dad and i are extremely close and we talk on the phone once to twice a week. the reason as to why this is a guilty pleasure instead of just a regular one is because our lives, my father's and mine, tend to run oddly parallel--in a bad way. we're both going through extraordinarily rough break ups (both relationships having suffered from an eerily similar demise) and we've fallen into a habit of ringing each other with all the morbid, highly detailed updates.

this is the sort of girl-talk i ought to be having with my best friend, and instead, i'm having it with my dad. hearing about how his love life sucks make me feel better about the fact that mine does. and he offers good advice. and we laugh a fair amount.

he feels guilty about not setting a better example for me. and i feel guilty about making him worry about me on top of all of the other issues he's got on his plate right now, but despite the guilt, you can find us twice a week on the phone, swearing and complaining and laughing and occasionally getting a bit choked up, him with his heineken clutched in his fist, and me with my glass of white wine.

Well, you are fortunate to not suffer from that common malady.

I said that it was an irrational irritation. And, in my defense, it's only people who have chronically low self-esteem.
