My wife and I went to the polling place together a few hours ago. We didn't even have to stand in line. Ah, the positives of living in a rural community.

I just canvassed my grandma! :D

She's undecided and I asked her to vote for obama for me and my future if she wasn't sure. And I read her what he said about his grandmother yesterday and she really liked that. My mom and Dad may have voted republican, but I'm hoping I can get her to vote for Obama. :)

she likes em both and dislikes em both, which is how she feels about pretty much all politicians, and she said she wouldn't decide really until she got into the booth. :)

I was only in line for ten minutes, and that was in NYC. I was expecting MUCH worse. Of course, I did get up at the crack of dawn...

Obama won.

By a large majority too. Good job, Obama. The only thing I hate is that, the second Obama won, CNN put up a picture of a group of black people holding up I VOTED FOR OBAMA stickers as the header/breaking news image to announce this. I found it dumb, as if it were putting too much emphasis on race. He was a good candidate, and he won on this, not on race.

I found it silly, though, how it was "close" until 8:01pm PST when CA/WA/OR closed and they immediately called it, even with 0% reporting. Ahh our silly electorial college.

Also interesting is Nebraska's End-Affirmative-Action ballot question which looks to pass. Awesome. The one in Colorado is pretty close.

Michigan's Stem-Cell-Research (Still close, hope it passes) and Medical-Marijuana ballot questions look to pass. Also awesome.

Florida's Ban on Gay Marriage looks to pass, but is still kind of iffy I am told. Interesting.

Human Life from Moment of Conception in Colorado is also looking to pass, banning abortion. This is exceptionally dumb, I believe. I think a fetus should only be considered a "human life" once it can live on its own. *shrugs*

Arkansas might ban gay couples from adopting children. Interesting as well.

All of these are preliminary and may change. Either way, it is interesting to see how things progress.

Edit: Oh yeah, Arizona is projected to have passed a ban on Gay Marriage. But also passed a law saying that an Employer is only in trouble of getting their license revoked if they KNOW they were hiring Illegal Immigrants. That's dumb in that it's like putting a band aid on a broken bone.

Edit one more time: I understand the significance of this election for African Americans.. but I still thought it to be... a silly banner to use as the breaking news for Obama being announced as the winner.

I lied: Apparently during McCains concession speech, which I am told was good, while he was saying things like THIS WAS AN HISTORIC RACE and IT WAS AN IMPORTANT STEP FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS and that he conceded the race, the crowd boo'd. Ugh. He just put up his hands and went "Please." -- come on. Republicans, I know things didn't go your way, but don't be like the whiny, butthurt, I'm-moving-to-Canada, I-can't-go-to-work-I'm-so-upset democrats of 2000 and 2004. *sighsssssss at the final stupidity of this election*

I think you are mistaken on this point. My information is showing that it's currently being defeated 74% to 26%.

Man, I sure feel like an idiot. All night I had been looking at this list that placed items like this

YES %

NO %

And then I go back and look, and they actually order them as whichever one is winning on top either being YES or NO. So, the list isn't consistant. It switches back and forth between YES and NO being either on top of bottom. That's a really confusing layout.

Sorry about that.

No problem. Don't feel like an idiot. I think they try and make these things as confusing as possible. I just happen to live here, so I've been watching Colorado races more closely. :)

It does seem that way doesn't it? Either way, I'm glad I was wrong on that. It was simply an overly complex/confusing way of banning abortions and I don't think that is right. :)

I'm definitely pro-life, but I did vote against this amendment. It was to go so far as to outlaw the morning after pill and some other kinds of birth control. I'd MUCH rather someone took a pill than a child end up in the system. It was just a stupidly done amendment (in my opinion).

I'm for abortion, as I said, up to a point. 25ish weeks is when I think the cutoff should be (about when a fetus can live outside the womb). I see nothing wrong with abortion before this, especially within the first couple weeks, as at this point it shouldn't even be considered a fetus (or a life for that matter, considering you would need a microscope to even tell anyways).

My only real argument for this is that we really, really don't need more unwanted children in this country. Also, I think it's sick that some places will allow you to give birth to a baby and then kill it.

Either way, we can agree that it was poorly written. :)

What a night, what a night. I'm so excited. I wrote four years ago about how America was going into the toilet. Well, it took four years, but I was right.

Tonight, we've started on the path to redemption.

You're right, that does sound better. One way makes it sound like I like the idea of preventing life, the other way makes it seem like I support others choice to do so. lol

Boo! AZ on taking a step backwards in terms of gay marriage. I voted against 102.

And tempted as I am to discuss 202, since Wil brought it up, I'm going to pass on that.

I am very much happy that I both voted and came away satisfied with the President, finally.

That was one I read wrong also. (Silly damn website being confusing!)

Ended up being no on 202.. which I'm not sure about. I don't think it is right to hold employers accountable for hiring an illegal immigrant working on fake papers when they don't know about. But, as I said, it really does seem like just a bandaid on top of the immigration problems. We need to fix immigration, not just do little things like this!

But yeah, 102... huh. Looks like it might be awhile before the population actually accepts the inevitable.

But part of what's so frustrating about this is we, as a state, had already voted against banning gay marriage back in 2006. I liked that outcome much better.

So, in 2006 you voted against ever voting to ban gay marriage, and here your state just voted for banning gay marriage?

How... does that work? Wow.

We didn't vote against ever voting to ban gay marriage. We voted against changing the state constitution to ban gay marriage. We decided, illegal as it still may have been, it shouldn't go in the constitution because we might get enlightened one day and decide it isn't wrong after all.

Now, we're saying that we (as a state) changed our mind. Just throw that ban in the constitution and make the lives of whatever portion of our population is gay just that much harder.

Bah.

gonna have to third this. :) such a phenomenal speaker.

And I get a new camera.

since the last night was a like a month of christmas eves worth of anticipation piled up on top of one another I decided that I'm buying myself an "Obama Won" present. keeping america rolling and all that.

here's my new baby:

canon g-10

This is my first digital camera. I'm still not entirely happy about transitioning from film to digital, especially to something as low res as 14 MP (I'm used to 50MB scans of a 35mm piece of film, or 120MB for a 6x6 scan) But I suppose low res is the future, since digital is the future, this is more about convenience than anything though, which is the primary attraction of digital cameras. I'll still use my film equipment for art series though.

I teared up and it's not even my country...

It's just so unbelievable how quickly (historically) a country can go from slavery to having a black president. It's right up there with Nelson Mandela.

The celebrations on the street are what floored me. I watched a bunch on youtube, it was just awesome. All across the country- people literally dancing in the streets - when has that ever happened before??

When the Red Sox won the series in 2004.

But, seriously, as someone who was present for and participated in last night's street-dancing--what an incredible moment.

I bought today's newspaper to add to my small collection of other Day-After newspapers (9/12/01, Elections '04, 8 gold medals). Now it's more real for me.

Just one more reason I wish I were in Tucson...it's a blue city in a blue county in a red state. Here? Red city, red county = no overwhelming joy.
